Georgia Vote Today

December 14th, 2006 · 3 Comments · Defense Against the Harry Haters, Harry News and Commentary

Update #3: It’s just getting uglier. If the story is correct, Laura Mallory is considering taking her complaint to court. What could she possibly hope to accomplish in court?

Update #2: It might not be over. There’s talk of an appeal. I might stop covering this story just to protect my own sanity.

Update: It’s over. Mallory loses. Hooray for Georgia!

Gwinnett school officials have argued that the books are good tools to encourage children to read and to spark creativity and imagination. Banning all books with references to witchcraft would mean classics like “MacBeth” and “Cinderella” would have to go, they said.

The Laura Mallory case against Harry Potter will finally see its conclusion today. The State Board of Education will vote today on whether or not Harry Potter should be banned.

Recent news affirms that the state will take the incredibly sane and normal position that the books should stay in schools.

I’ll post an update later today when the official ruling comes out.

“The kind of stuff in these books — murder and greed and violence. Why do they have to read them in school?”

This quote made me laugh. Murder, greed, and violence; What books/movies etc today don’t have any of this?

Also, who said anybody HAS to read them?
