  • James McAvoy is denying the rumors that he’s Bilbo
  • The auction price for the Harry Potter prequel works out to $61 a word.
  • HP Progs has a typed copy of the prequel, in case you, like everyone else in the world, are having difficulty reading Rowling’s handwriting.
  • Portus News: Leslie Combemale, owner of ArtInsights Animation and Film Art Gallery, will be giving a talk on Mary Grand Pre’s artwork, which will be on display at Portus 2008.
  • Support literacy programs through Portus by buying from Barnes and Noble with their bookfair code June 20-22.
  • More podcasts are coming.  Our house was broken into and robbed this week, so I’ve not had the time to record.  If not during this upcoming week, then I’ll definitely be recording sometime during the Ottawa conference (for which you can still register).
  • I’ll also do some live-tweeting from Convetion Alley, so make sure you’re signed up for Twitter and are following the Hog’s Head Twitter page.
  • You’ll see on the sidebar that you can now subscribe to the Hog’s Head (free, as always) by email.   Between 7pm - 9pm EST each day, you’ll be emailed any posts that have gone up for that day.
  • Finally, if you’re at all interested in following my non-Potter writings (as well as the occasional Potter-related article), here is free-subscription information for my articles at Suite101.com.

Pity about James McAvoy not playing Bilbo. Not that I’d ever watch The Hobbit, but I would imagine his performance would be a highlight of it. Just so long as they don’t have Elijah Woods do it.

Yeah I second that. However why would they have Elijah Wood play Bilbo?

Johnny, it was kind of a poor joke on my part, seeing as I didn’t particularly care for Wood’s performance as Frodo. Should’ve put a smiley face there.

Yeah I was wondering if you heard of a rumor that Elijah was playing Bilbo or something. I found that odd. Thanks for clearing that up revgeorge, :)

But I have a question: why not just give the role to Ian Holm? If Anthony Hopkins can play a younger Hannibal Lector in Red Dragon then Ian Holm can be in The Hobbit. At least for some continuity between the films.

The only rumours I hear are generally on HP sites, so I’m usually behind the curve on any of them.

I don’t see why they couldn’t have Ian Holm play the part. Heck, with the way CGI works nowadays I’m not sure they’ll be using real human actors for much longer anyway. :)

Ian Holm would make the most sense, since Bilbo isn’t supposed to have aged much from the time he found the ring - right? As well as I think James McAvoy would do, it seems like he’d be a bit too young.
