No pubcast this weekend. I got about 5 minutes into it, but I have a paper to finish, and I don’t have time for both. I’ll do my best to get it done next weekend. Bummer, too…I’m really looking forward to finally doing a pubcast on Snape, which I’ll do after Part 2 of the racism series.

In Harry (and Dumbledore), we see a wizard who conforms his soul to reality, not relying on magical technique, but on knowledge, self-discipline, and virtue. In Voldemort we see a wizard who tries to subdue reality to his own wishes, denying the spiritual realm and splitting up his soul to “be in control.†He is a exaggerated version of Francis Bacon’s scientist, shouting “knowledge for power†while trying to conquer nature.
