A Few Notes

by Travis Prinzi on March 4, 2007

No pubcast this weekend.  I got about 5 minutes into it, but I have a paper to finish, and I don’t have time for both.  I’ll do my best to get it done next weekend.  Bummer, too…I’m really looking forward to finally doing a pubcast on Snape, which I’ll do after Part 2 of the racism series.

If you haven’t already, you need to check out the new Virtuous Wizardry blog.  The post “The importance of choice” is really solid, concise analysis:

In Harry (and Dumbledore), we see a wizard who conforms his soul to reality, not relying on magical technique, but on knowledge, self-discipline, and virtue. In Voldemort we see a wizard who tries to subdue reality to his own wishes, denying the spiritual realm and splitting up his soul to “be in control.” He is a exaggerated version of Francis Bacon’s scientist, shouting “knowledge for power” while trying to conquer nature.
