Well, you had to know it was coming. This one’s going to be more involved than the first three, and it’s going to stay open for a couple of days. The winner of this contest will receive a free, autographed copy of my book, Harry Potter & Imagination: The Way Between Two Worlds.
Here’s how you enter. Publicize the post, “Pre-order Harry Potter & Imagination.” Any mode of publicity will do, but here are some suggestions:
- At the bottom of the post, there is a “Share/Save” button. Several of these links are ways to share content: Digg, StumbleUpon, Reddit, etc. Any of these will do. Most require you to have an account with them, but setting one up is usually really easy.
- Email your friends.
- Share the post on Twitter, Plurk, Facebook, MySpace, or anywhere else you can think of.
- Get a megaphone and shout the URL around your neighborhood.
- Get primo tickets for a football game this weekend, and bring a big sign that will end up on TV.
- Harry Potter fansite forums and blog comments sections.
- Any other creative way you can think of.
Once you’ve shared the post, come back here and tell us you did so, and which method you chose, in the comments. Here’s the fun part: Your name gets entered each time you share the post in one way or another. To add even more incentive, Digg, StumbleUpon, Reddit, and Facebook all count for 2 shares (your name gets put in twice).
Feel free to ask questions in the comments or by E-owl.
Deadline for entry is midnight EST on Monday, December 1. Winner will be announced Tuesday.
Note: Please be sure you’re sharing the right post. It’s the one linked here, not the present post that you are reading. But tell us you shared it in the comments for this post. Confused? Me too. Good luck.

Out of curiosity, how will you know whether or not someone actually did something? Will you need proof, or will you take a person’s word for it? Or perhaps you just want to hear how many outrageous ways people can come up with? By the way, when is your book coming out? It sounds like a really interesting take on Harry Potter.
Arka, I’m taking people’s word for it! So, be honest, everyone!
We’re shooting for a release date of December 10, I think. It’ll be somewhere around that area, in any case.
Just posted it to my Facebook profile.
Hi Travis,
I’m a happy lurker here, but think your book sounds great, so publicizing it is no problem for me. Just posted the designated blog post to my Facebook page… Lots of my Facebook friends are Potter-heads
–Donna in Scranton
Posted on Twitter, Facebook, and Hogwarts Radio podcast.
I just went back in my Hog’s Head feed on my Google Reader, and shared the pre-order post w/ my Google Reader Friends… (it’s fun to figure out how to use all these online gadgets and gizmos to viral-market something… I’m a college librarian, and we’re always trying to figure out ways to do just this, but w/ our library services.)
Donna, Google Reader is such a great blog aggregator. The “Share” feature is a wonderful invention.
Arka, by the way – love the avatar
The internet is great for communication, and makes it easy to post links anywhere and everywhere!
It is posted on my Facebooks status, Myspace status, MSN status, Yahoo status, Twitter status, blog, youtube, Forum threads, and of course, general IM bombarding. And I’m about to send an e-mail to about everyone I know.
Oh, and I actually got the avatar off of a picture of me standing in front of Platform 9¾ that I had taken this summer when I was on vacation
Obviously I couldn’t pass through London without dragging my parents to King’s Cross!
Sent an email promoting your book to fellow Potter lovers, shared on google reader, and posted it on facebook…and have also been hounding my husband to get it for me for Christmas!
Posted on Facebook and LiveJournal. Will print and post promo at local coffee shop tomorrow!
Sent out emails, promoted through various http://www.HPANA.com means as well.
Changed my gravatar (thanks, Arka, for the idea).
Hmm, not the effect I was looking for. Back to the drawing board.
Hi, I just posted it on Plurk, Facebook, and my blog “Harry Potter was a Mac” http://hpwasamac.tumblr.com/. I can’t wait to read it!!!
Hi Travis,
Pinged it to my Twitter/Plurk/Facebook account yesterday, and will continue until Monday.
Also posted to SPQN.com forums AND emailed friends.
Jim
I posted to myspace, Twitter, facebook, livejournal, and yahoo messenger. Soon AIM, email to friends and all my Harry Potter Con friends.
Just posted the pre-order post to my Facebook page again…
Posted the link with a comment on Facebook.
Okay, I’ve posted the link on Facebook, “plurked” about it, changed my AIM status to the link, and made a Wikipedia entry on your book referring the link. The Wikipedia page exists at the time that I am posting this. (Don’t look at me if it gets taken down!)
Just spread the word via twitter. http://twitter.com/candes1 Hope I did it right. It was my first time using it since I signed up today. They don’t allow many characters though.
Posted on my blog both the link to the Pre-order post and the link to this giveaway: http://www.brimfulcuriosities.com/2008/12/full-to-brim-kids-book-giveaway-list.html
Sorry I missed all the other give-aways while on thanksgiving travels, though truth be told, I think I needed the “media fast” of the past few days! (Good for the soul!)
Anyway, delighted I still have a chance to win your book, Travis, slim though the chance may be. I just posted about it on my blog and provided the link to your pre-order post: http://bookwormjournal.blogspot.com/2008/12/harry-potter-imagination.html
Okay, I’m back (though I’m not yet seeing the comment I just submitted…perhaps there’s a lag time?) I just posted the link to your pre-order post, along with a brief comment, on Facebook as well.
That’s weird. My second comment posted by not my first. With the first, I mentioned how glad I am to still have an opportunity to win a copy of your book, Travis (especially since I was traveling the past few days and just got back!). I posted the link to your pre-order post on my blog: http://bookwormjournal.blogspot.com/2008/12/harry-potter-imagination.html
Forgive me if this posting comes through twice. Something seems glitchy…
Hello!
I just posted the pre-order link to Facebook and also e-mailed my friends who are Potterphiles.
I stumbled ~ momof2ballerinas
I blogged http://momcontests.blogspot.com/2008/12/harry-potter-imagination.html
I know the giveaway has ended, but I thought I’d mention that I blogged about the forthcoming book, plus 2 of John Granger’s books and one other book of HP commentary, at the blog for the college library where I work: http://wmlinfospot.wordpress.com/2008/12/02/great-reads-for-harry-potter-heads/
We don’t have any of the books I blogged about in our collection, but I am ordering them w/ my discretionary budget (so the students and faculty have access to them), so they will be in our collection later in the year.
–Donna the Librarian
Donna, that is just great. Thanks!
Might I suggest, if you’ve not ordered Looking for God in Harry Potter yet, that you go with How Harry Cast His Spell instead? It’s basically the same book, only updated with the material from the last book and given a new name.
Travis — thanks for that tip! I think my acquisitions librarian already placed the order though… And the title “Looking for God in Harry Potter” fit the angle of that book recommendation post quite nicely, and explicitly points to the faith aspects of the books. (Plus it’s the one of Granger’s books I’ve read…) However, I will make a point now to give “How Harry Cast His Spell” a read, and if I think the extra material needs to be made available (as I’m sure I will), I’ll just order up that one too at a later date.
