Hands down, Evanna Lynch as Luna. She is almost exactly as I pictured Luna.
Thanks for the fun.
I completely agree! Evanna Lynch’s portrayal of Luna was 100% like I had imagined her. I don’t think another actor could have played the role!
I’ve always thought that Robbie Coltrane made a great Hagrid! I couldn’t imagine anyone else playing that role.
Evanna Lynch/Luna
Though I have to admit the actor who played Cedric wasn’t very far off either.
I love Evanna Lynch, but I think she’s taken Luna to a level beyond the original conception: much more ethereal and otherworldly, and less awkward and socially inept.
Agree that Robbie Coltrane makes a great Hagrid and he’d have my vote, but for one exception: Imelda Staunton. Before we saw her, Umbridge was a malevolent but faceless cypher. We knew what she did, but had no clear idea why. The moment she clears her throat at Harry’s hearing before the Wizengamot, we know exactly what she is and what turns her on – and off.
My vote is for Staunton.
Evanna Lynch/Luna is a good choice. Imelda Staunton as Umbridge is also great but she’s been in one film as opposed to Robbie Coltrane who’s portrayed Hagrid excellently in all of the films, so he gets my vote.
Other good choices. I think Tom Felton has done a great job with Draco’s role, for the limited time we get to see him & the very specific role Draco plays in the story. Jason Isaacs isn’t exactly how I envisioned Lucius Malfoy but he’s so impressive on screen it’s hard to fault him.
David Thewlis as Lupin. I think his performance in POA nailed the essence of that character. After Robbie Coltrane he’d get my vote.
Bonnie Wright again isn’t quite how I pictured Ginny but I think she does a good job with the limited role she’s had.
So, will the next giveaway be about which actor least matches up with the character they play?
Oh, almost forgot. Helena Bonham Carter = Bellatrix Lestrange. Excellent piece of casting there.
To me, Maggie Smith as Professor McGonagall will always be the best casting for me, followed at a close second by Alan Rickman as Professor Snape.
The Giveaway has already been given away – but:
The only actor I always saw before my inner eye when re-reading the books was David Bradley as Argus Filch. He looked and behaved exactly as I imagined Filch. Sometimes, I also saw Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid and Richard Harris as Dumbledore. Alan Rickman, however, looks very different from the Snape of my imagination (and from the descriptions in the books, I think), although he is a good actor.
