Over at The Torch Online Heather Hogan has put together a nice preview of upcoming fantasy films in 2010.  Quite a few films coming out this year, including some big ones.  Ms. Hogan has previewed 15 films, the most notable, in my opinion, being Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Iron Man 2, Robin Hood, and last but not least, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1.

Check out all the previews, since there’s also quite a few others of interest to people who regularly read this blog.  Oh yeah, there’s also some movie with sparkly vampires coming out this year too.

Just got a note from Sue Upton that this poster is not a “real” movie poster from Warner Brothers. Apparently, it showed up and was debunked a few YEARS ago. Just goes to show how out of touch I am with the latest in pretend movie posters.

As the DVD and Blu Ray for Half-Blood Prince comes out this week, some of the extra features have sprung up on the web and it blew up the #harrypotter stream in my Twitter feed! Below is a roughly two minute video from  Daily Motion with a quick look at some of the scenes and settings for Deathly Hallows. You won’t find anything terribly revelatory, but you will see a few quick glimpses of the tent, Olivander, Griphook, and a couple of scenes I didn’t quite recognize.

Saw this story over at The Leaky Cauldron today.  Eight years ago this month the first Potter movie came out.  In the story Chris Columbus, the director of the first two movies, looks back at the casting of the Trio and also how far they’ve come both as actors and as young adults.  Two other items of note: One, Columbus is directing the new movie based off of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series; two, in December ultimate DVD editions of the first two Potter movies will be released.

On December 12, Warner Bros is offering a live, worldwide screening of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. It will be hosted by director David Yates, starting at 8pm London time, and Daniel Radcliffe will also be there.

The catch is that you have to purchase the Blu-Ray (released December 8th) before the event and register online.

Yates said,

“I’m looking forward to engaging with the thoughts and opinions of the fans who have supported us so loyally and passionately over the years-without them the films wouldn’t be the success they are.”

It’s an interesting concept. If you want to take part in the viewing, make sure you order the Blu-Ray. You can pre-order it here.

This is an old story from The Telegraph in the UK, but it’s the first chance I’ve had to post it.  I thought it relevent since we do discuss film adaptations of books here fairly frequently.  I don’t think the films are listed in order of preference for the author of the piece; just listed from 1 to 25.

Some notables: The 1931 adaptation of Dracula is listed at #13.  The 1980 adaptation of The Shining is at #21.  Harry Potter series is at #22.  And the abhominable Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings is at #25.
