Deathly Hallows Poster!

by Travis Prinzi on December 9, 2009

Just got a note from Sue Upton that this poster is not a “real” movie poster from Warner Brothers. Apparently, it showed up and was debunked a few YEARS ago. Just goes to show how out of touch I am with the latest in pretend movie posters.

This is actually a fairly bold poster — given that many of the movie fans will have no idea what the picture represents (those who haven’t read the books)… I’m sure it’s a teaser poster, and that the regular posters with the contractually-specified pictures of the actors will come later.

Beautiful, though… And designed by someone who knows the books…

It is beautiful, but I don’t know if I like the choice of words. Part of the DH journey is about the choice of Hallows or Horcruxes, so its hard to be convinced there is one way, and I think it over-simplifies the story line. I love the inclusion of the Doe, which does show the artist understands how central that chapter is to the entire series.

That, seriously, is the best HP movie poster to date. I love it. It’s a pivotal moment in the book and should be in the movie. And I like that it doesn’t look like any of the other HP movie posters. I’m sure there will be one later with the trio, though it might be hard to do that without giving away the story for people who haven’t read the book.

PotterMom05, you and I posted at the same time apparently. I can see your point about the wording. But I don’t think it’s as far off as it seems. For Harry to defeat Voldemort, there really is only one way for him to go. Yes, there is a choice, but one choice (destroying the Horcruxes) leads there while the other choice (finding all the Deathly Hallows) leads to power for Harry, but without achieving the goal set before him. It’s set out early in the books that Harry is the hero, and DH is all about Harry staying focused on getting to that goal of defeating Voldemort. The Hallows are tempting and alluring, but really are a distraction, a temptation, that he must overcome.

It’s a fake!

Unfortunately it’s probably better than any legitimate poster WB will put out.

It may be a fake movie poster. But it’s truthful to the book. And as people have noted, very beautiful.

A prayer to all the powers in the universe: please, please, please let the makers of the movies bring the best they have in them to their task. This means so much more to us than just a movie you watch while munching popcorn and then walk away and forget about.

I don’t care if the poster is fake, it’s awesome! It’s really beautiful and mysterious and all. I think it’s made by taking a screencap from PoA and then editing it..

I think it looks beautiful whether it is fake or not….also not sure about the wording though. For me it just doesn’t seem to match as well as if they were to take a quote or something from the book (which I realize would be more ripping off the book, but I would enjoy that a bit more…)

Wording? What wording? All I can see is the picture of the silver doe, which I agree makes for a beautiful picture, and the words Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows underneath it. What am I missing here?

Above the doe it says:
One Way
One Fate
One Hero

Yeah–as a word nut, I’d say that’s pretty weak wording. In fact, as PotterMom suggests, the word ‘reductionist’ comes to mind.

How’s this for the next edition?
‘One Way | Three Fates | A Gathering of Heroes’

@Mr. Pond: I prefer yours better. For one thing even though Harry is the main character, that doesn’t mean there is only one hero in the book >_<

If writing a story about someone else’s characters is called fanfiction, what do we call the writing on a fake poster advertising a movie? And if comes to that, what do we call re-writing the headers on the fake poster? fakefanposterheaders?

Fake or not, I still like it. Actually, it’s my wallpaper at the moment. Well, the part with the stag is – I lopped off the top and bottom.

Actually when I first saw it- I thought of the Deathly Hallows – “one wand, one cloak, one stone,” and one red herring. ;-)

Eeyore – I think that’s the patronus of Snape, the doe. But I can’t tell – maybe it’s the stag.

@Joivre: You are another reheader XD
I like your version too ;)

Thanks, Jessica, for filling me in on the wording at the top of the poster.
When I look closer at the picture on my computer, I can see what looks like white squiggly lines, but no more. At least now I know what the fake poster says. Eeyore and Joivre, that obviously is the silver doe, so Joivre is right, that it would be Snape’s patronus charm. It looks very much like the way the stag did in POA, when Harry first saw it, only without the antlers. Wonder if some uberteckie just used that image and took off the antlers????

I’ve seen this a few years back and though it’s a fake, it looks like it could have been a teaser poster.

Love, love, love this poster. Best ever.

How about “Hallows… Horcruxes… Heroes”? Sums it up in my book.

Fricka, it certainly looks like that took the image from PoA and edited the antlers out ^_^
I wonder why you can’t see them…is your computer really small or something?

Okay, I admire the photoshop skills of the person who made this. I tried to recreate something like this and it’s not easy. Especially the lightning is awesome in the fake poster. And the DHs logo… I used a screencap of the DHs trailer for that, but the person who made the poster had to make it him/herself. (this is what I made: http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh21/evanna11/DHsposter2kopie.jpg it’s not good, I didn’t have time to do it properly (and would never be able to make it as awesome as the fake poster anyway)).

What a bummer that it’s a fake, because it looks really awesome!

It’s too bad that it’s a fake, because it’s awesome.
