Deathly Hallows Week, Day 2: News

by Travis Prinzi on July 16, 2007

Update on DH Leak: I did some digging around, and the leak may be a real copy of the book.  If the leak is not a hoax, it appears someone got a hold of a copy, is taking pictures of each page, scanning them and uploading them.  I saw some of the pictures (without reading any words), and it certainly looks genuine.  As of now, I’ll leave comments up, but as soon as we’ve got a confirmation that the leak is real, I’m shutting them down.  Just to be safe, I’m shutting down comments for now.  If it turns out to be a hoax, I’ll put them back up.  Sorry, folks.  It appears I can’t just eliminate the comment option altogether without altering every single post, so all comments will go to moderation, and I’m just going to let them sit in moderation until after Deathly Hallows is released or the leak is proven to be a hoax.

Catherine Roberts of Rochester’s Democrat and Chronicle has done a nice write-up on anticipating the final Harry Potter installment: Harry Potter: The Final Chapter.  A good amount of the article contains elements of the interview she conducted with me on Friday.  Very well done, Cathy, and thanks for the opportunity.

I got this comment in a different thread:

It appears DH has finally leaked; someone has a stolen library book copy (I knew giving the librarians permission to open them early was a bad idea!) and has taken pictures of the first four hundred pages. I’ve spent hours trying to find fault with them, but unfortunately, they are flawless. The book dedication itself is what got me; it was uniquely and supremely Jo, no hoaxer could have come up with it.

Can we get confirmation or denial of this rumor?  There are no news articles or blog posts that I’ve seen yet (though admittedly, I’m avoiding these things as much as possible right now).  After seeing this comment, I did some thinking about what I’ll do here at SoG should the book really be leaked.  Here’s the plan:

If Deathly Hallows is leaked, the rest of the week here at SoG will be deadly silent.  I’ll shut down comments for the week, and while I may still put up a few posts, I’ll be avoiding almost all media for the entirety of the week.
