I had heard about the potential for this when I listened to S.T. Joshi’s “Reflections on H.P. Lovecraft” lecture, but it appears to be official: scheduled for release in 2010, del Toro will be directing a film version of At the Mountains of Madness. Thanks to Jeremy for the E-Owl.

I love the fact that the first discussion thread about this on IMDB is titled “Let’s not get all nerdy about this.”
Oh it’s too late for that, my friend, much, much too late…
[Note: It's complete coincidence that I just so happen to be wearing my Miskatonic University Antarctic Expedition hoodie today...]
Does anyone know for sure if del Toro “turned down” DH, or was he never offered the director’s chair?
Hmmm…if he turned down DH to do a Lovecraft adaptation, I would be curious to know why.
I think the news said he was “not in the running,” meaning, “We’re not considering him.”
Actually, I heard that Del Toro is “not in the running” because he’s already scheduled to work on another film during the time that Deathly Hallows is scheduled to be directed.
