Believe it or not (read that line with sarcasm), folks are pirating Harry Potter audio books. So now they’re being sold as digital files for your iPod. If I had ever won that free iPod, I’d get it, but none of my loser friends signed up.
Apparently Katie Leung has collected a group of enemies for playing Cho Chang. Which, of course, is stupid.
Finally, I thought I’d ask a random poll question. This is two parted:
1. Are you more excited about the movie release of Goblet of Fire or The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe?
2. Which do you think will be a better movie?

For both questions, I’m going to say Goblet of Fire. It’s a tough call, but the previous Potter movies have been good (overall). Obviously, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe will be awesome — IF they do it right. And that’s what I’m still worried about. So far, it LOOKS good, but I have concerns about how they will treat the story. (Granted, it looks like they aren’t shying away from the Stone Table scene, so that’s encouraging.) I’m keeping my expectations low, but I’m secretly hoping that the film will vastly exceed them.
How’s that for a not-so-commital answer?
GOF. I think the HP movies have improved with each new release. The acting, sets, story-telling has all been getting better. They have a new director (English), and so far all I have seen from it looks amazing. There is no comparing them to the books – Different medium, time constraints, etc.
LWW looks okay, Aslan is some really bad CG, but I will check it out.
LWW. I have some fear and trepidation due to the LOTR adaptations. And I liked those for what they were. But I have been reading Narnia longer and it was my entrance to Faerie! They’d better not screw it up or there’ll be a hag or two to answer to, if not Jadis herself!
I have enjoyed the HP movies, but I am so into the books that no movie can live up to expectations! Which reminds why I am worried about the LWW. It helps that Douglas Gresham, Lewis’ stepson is executive producing. He has stated that he is committed to rendering the books faithfully. (Of course, they wouldn’t let the reindeer into NZ so we end up with polar bears pulling the sleigh of the White Witch!) Narnia Fans might enjoy http://www.narniafans.com for info and chat!
P.S. Inked is from marked by the Inklings and Dorothy L. Sayers and GK Chesterton and Charles Williams with a smudge of understanding and a smidge of what my yet be!
I’m with the non-committal answer. I’m looking forward very much to both, and hoping desperately that they don’t ruin LWW.
I think the HP movies have gotten better in one sense and worse in another. Certainly I agree the acting has gotten better (though Gambon just doesn’t do Dumbledore right, IMO). But I was a bit frustrated by how short PoA was, and how much necessary plotline was left out.
I’m looking forward to seeing where the new director takes it.
I didn’t know how closely Douglas Gresham was involved. That is exciting! Gresham is a committed Christian who lives in Ireland and opens his house for Christian conferences and the like. I had the privilege of staying there last year.
That said, I’m still waiting for GOF more than LWW.
Travis,
I am most anticipating the “deeper magic” of LWW. I think it will be a huge smash as long as it is a good movie. Every Christian that saw The Passion will go plus a whole lot more plus a far broader secular audience. I think it will open a lot of eyes to the brilliance of CS Lewis works and introduce a love of people to the gospel.
