Dr. Amy H. Sturgis at The Hog’s Head!

by Travis Prinzi on October 5, 2008

We have a very special guest blogger for the month of October – Dr. Amy H. Sturgis!  Dr. Sturgis is a professor at Belmont University who teaches courses in Native American history and in literature, including classes on Gothic lit, Dystopian lit, Science Fiction, and Harry Potter.  (View her full list of classes here).  She blogs regularly at Redecorating Middle-Earth in Early Lovecraft, where presently she is doing her annual Halloween countdown (posts are linked on the sidebar here at The Hog’s Head during the month of October).  Dr. Sturgis has a long list of publications, including works on both Harry Potter and H.P. Lovecraft, and an essay appearing in the collection of Harry Potter essays that I’m editing for Zossima Press.

Dr. Sturgis is going to join us in discussing Lovecraft throughout the month of October.  She’s going to give insight where she can during her busy schedule, and she’s promised a lengthy post when we get to “The Haunter of the Dark” (week four).  Everyone give Dr. Sturgis a warm welcome!

We are beginning our weekly Lovecraft story.  This week, we’re reading “The Outsider” (text and audio).

Stay tuned for some introductory material from Dr. Sturgis on H.P. Lovecraft, as well as some intro questions to “The Outsider.”

I’m really looking forward to this- Fhtagn!

(speaking of “fhtagn”, I remember a Monty Python sketch where Graham Chapman was a punchy police man who punctuated his blows with “Fhtagn, fhtagn!”)
