I’ve been saying for a while that if the Goblet of Fire movie is going to be faithful to the book, the book’s climax will earn it a PG-13 rating. Turns out this is true in America and England (which gave it a 12A, a basic equivalent less one year).
I wonder if this will be any comfort to those who are not necessarily opposed to the idea of the Harry Potter novels, but rather to the marketing towards very young children who might have difficulty separating fantasy fiction from the real world.
In any event, I’m glad the movie earned this rating, both because it means it should stay faithful to the growth of the books, and because there is no question that there will be scenes quite frightening for young children.
