Update III: The Real Trailer is ONLINE (click here)!
Update II: It’s coming, for real, on Tuesday, July 29.
Update: It’s available! (sort of)
With more than four months till the film release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, there is still no trailer (teaser or full) released as of yet. However with all the release of photos from the film, a trailer is imminent. Do you think that we can expect one when the Dark Knight comes out in theatres July 18? Consider the fact that both films are done by Warner Bros. and what way to create buzz for the new Potter film by attaching the trailer to what might be this year’s biggest summer blockbuster. What do you think?

It would make sense to have it with Dark Night, since the exposure would be tremendous. The trailer wouldn’t have to be very long; just enough to give us a tease.
I agree with revgeorge: it would make good sense. I certainly hope it is included.
Leaky is saying that it is not going to be showing in front of Beatmen, but instead possibly in front of “Clone Wars”. Of course that is all sort of a rumor now. It does seem strange they don’t have a trailer at all. Maybe there will be a big trailer or something.
Trailers by industry standards cannot be longer than two minutes and thirty seconds — except for one release from each studio every year. I wonder if Warner Brothers will use their token exemption from the 2:30 rule for their flagship film franchise? Where’s Janet?
Great point, John! Wouldn’t that be cool. I’ve been fearing that WB is trying not to time the trailer with the Lexicon Book verdict (it’s almost like a game of chicken – who will flinch first?). It would be so much better if they are waiting because they have something cool in store. I think living in Washington in a political year is getting to me.
Travis – enjoy the podcasts as always!!! Tried some of Aberforth’s coffee last time and it was terrific. Wonder where he gets his roast from?
heh.

You do all realize that Dark Knight has a lot more to offer than the trailers for other movies, no matter how eagerly anticipated? That by all reports Heath Ledger has channeled a Joker who will join the likes of Hannibal Lecter and Amon Goeth in the annals of movie villains?
No, I think Dark Knight will offer much more than just trailers for other films. Which is why, if they’re thinking right, they’ll put a HBP trailer with it. Everybody’s going to want to see Dark Knight, so any trailers are going to get maximum exposure.
Although I probably wont’ see Dark Knight in the theatre. Not much of a moviegoer. Although I did see the original Batman 11 times in the theatre. But then I was young & in college & spending my mom’s money.
Mugglenet also says that it’s not going to be at The Dark Knight, but the Mummy. Makes sense to put the trailer in with a much less anticipated movie to boost the sales of the not so popular one. I’m betting on not Dark Knight !
Well, so much for our speculation.
I realize this is almost totally off topic, but I love the Mummy franchise. Brendan Fraser is a treat to watch whatever he’s doing. His turn as a Colombian drug dealer in Bedazzled – “I can speak Spanish! – is one of my favorite all-time movie comedy routines. I’m looking forward to the next installment, cheesy 3-D effects on all. The only rub is that Rachel Weisz won’t be back as Evelyn. I just checked and found out that she turned down the part because at age 37 she didn’t relish playing the mother of a 21 year old.
I’m right there with you Red. I’m already planning a post on Voldemort’s characterization in light of Ledger’s turn as Joker — not a one-to-one comparison, but to help illuminate what I see as a major flaw in Voldemort’s depiction.
I know we’re all psyched about Half Blood Prince. But, if someone gave me the option of watching only one movie this year, The Dark Knight would win, and second place wouldn’t even be within sight of the finish line.
John, I don’t know if it qualifies, but I know WB released a lengthy trailer for TDK (5 or 6 minutes) in one of their IMAX movies earlier this year, or very late last year. Unfortunately I didn’t get to see it. I want to say it was on the front of I am Legend, but I can’t remember for sure.
To me, it makes better sense to put a teaser for Half Blood Prince before The Dark Knight. They are the two flagship IPs for Warner Brothers at this moment. There’s a lot of overlap between those two fandoms, and pulling the two together would create a lot buzz, especially since The Dark Knight is virutally guaranteed to have the best release of any comic book movie to date, and I’m guessing it will at least make a run at the best release of any movie ever made.
I like the first two Mummy films quite a bit, but I’m not at all enthusiastic for the third. The trailer just doesn’t do much for me — all spectacle with no hint of a heart. No Rachel Weisz is killing it as far as I’m concerned. She’s the straight man to Brenden Fraser’s goofball.
A few days ago, HPANA reported the following:
So the Half-Blood Prince connection with The Dark Knight is confirmed although it will only play in front of IMAX screens (boost sales for IMAX?) and is only a mere 15 seconds long, the equivalent of a TV spot. Those who will see The Dark Knight in regular theatres are out of luck (like myself) but will probably be on Youtube or somewhere on the Internet the same day.
I wish they’d make up their minds. First it’s not going to appear before Dark Knight but now it is, but only in IMAX theatres, for which I’d have to travel three & a half hours to Denver to see!
Thank goodness for the Internet, where someone will do a screen capture for me & post it.
i heard reports that the teaser trailer will be with the dark knight and the trailer will be with the mummy 3
