Happy Easter: Love Trumps Evil, Death

by Travis Prinzi on April 8, 2007

For Easter celebrations, Pope Benedict XVI spoke on the theme of love’s victory over evil and death, which I thought appropriate to link here, as Rowling takes up the exact same theme book after book.

Have a happy and joyful Easter, everyone.  Be sure to check out the special Easter episode of the Hog’s Head PubCast if you haven’t yet.  That Aberforth can really play the organ.

Happy Easter! Lovely Easter PubCast, by the way. Very pleasant to listen to. (I never knew Aberforth could play organ!) :)

You know, I’ve wondered for years why the HP books have caused such an outcry from Christians. After all, they’re quite similar to the Lion, Witch and Wardrobe books that get the firm nod of approval…

My conclusion is that it’s not really about witchcraft at all. They’re condemned because everything in the books is achieved through human powers without help from God (except in phoenix form, of course – a pagan image). Humanism is the true challenge to Christian religion. The true threat is that we might not need God or Jesus – that the love of our friends and family might be enough to have a good life full of meaning.
