Harry Potter Exhibition Tour with Neville

by Travis Prinzi on October 28, 2009

Matthew Lewis, who plays Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter movies, gives a tour of Harry Potter: The Exhibition, going on in Boston now. It looks excellent, and well worth the trip. I’m definitely planning to make the trip up there before it leaves.

Have you been yet? Are you planning to go?

Well worth the trip and the fee if you appreciate the movies.

My family and I went to see it in Chicago which is closer for us in Ohio and from the opening with the sorting hat room to the replica of the Hogwarts Express (steam and all) and then all of the movie set displays of the furniture, wands and costumes used, the sets used in the Hogwarts common rooms, Hagrid’s Hut, the Great Hall, all are the actual articles the actors had used on set in Leavesden and not replicas. They really put you as close to Harry’s world as they can without being in England itself.

We enjoyed the memories with more yet to come with DH.

Like David, I got to go to Chicago. My wife and I both enjoyed the exhibit. It was really cool to see the actual costumes and props. At the time, I really liked the “wanted” posters for the Death eaters in HBP since we hadn’t seen the movie yet, unfortunately they were of the non-wizarding kind (not animated with CGI).

The one thing that I kind of regret is not getting the audio commentary/self-guided tour that includes stuff from the actors. I feel this way because there is no tour or anything besides the signs that tell you about the props, etc. We were feeling cheap that day, but it might not have added anything that we didn’t know from following HP fandom.

My oldest daughter got picked to sit on the stool at the beginning and be “sorted.” It was fun, and of course I wished I could have recorded it. I did think the exhibition as a whole would seem larger, but I couldn’t think of anything not included. All the docents are either British expatriates or actors hired to speak with English accents. I would definitely recommend it.
