With apologies to those who purchased the book from Amazon.com in the last few days, I’m happy to announce that Harry Potter & Imagination has been discounted from its $17.99 list price and is now available for $16.19! (I didn’t know Amazon planned to do this.)
Another 5-star review, this one from the guy we know around here as “Black Angus”:
Travis Prinzi’s book ‘Harry Potter and Imagination’ helped me to understand some of the great themes Rowling addresses. It’s a clear and thoughtful exploration of Rowling’s views on evil, death, love, forgiveness, gender and race (among many other things) that make the books such a powerful contribution to our culture.
I recommend this book if you want to think more about deeply about the ideas that gripped you and why they resonated with you. Prinzi’s book is a tribute to Rowling’s genius in that he has used her work to provide much to think about on many different issues in literature and culture.
Thanks for your kind words!

Hello,
Travis, I’ve been wanting to order your book, but since I live in the middle of nowhere, literally in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, shipping charges are a killer. I have finally found a site with no shipping charges to Europe that has your book!! I just wanted to share for anyone else in a similar situation. http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/WEBSITE/WWW/WEBPAGES/homepage.php
I’m ordering right now, and John Granger’s book too!!!
I love listening to your podcasts. Keep up the great work.
Best regards,
Susana
My book showed up, so I’ll stop bothering you when it’s going to get her. It’s been a good read, and good timing because I just finish “How Harry Cast His Spell.” I’m jumping around it a lot though. I guess I’m trying to take in too much. Just finished the feminism chapter…Ginny as Susan, interesting stuff!
Brent, so glad you’re enjoying it! You have your copy of my book before I have my own!
I just read an excerpt on the podcast I’m about to post, and was sad to find two typos in just the section I read! (Beedle was spelled “Beetle,” and there was a subject/verb disagreement.) I do hope we caught most of the rest of those in the editing process!
Looking forward to more of your thoughts.
Still waiting on my copy.
Sorry, Revgeorge. Not trying to rub it in. I’m kind of chuckling though it’s the opposite of “Harry, A History” when you got your copy two weeks before me (or I got it two weeks later than it was suppose to be here) and my copy of “Beedle” showed up much later, that I didn’t get in on most of the good discussions. This on top of our post office sucks, my neighbor can send me a Christmas card and it will show up a week later than her family down state. I’m surprised I got my copy before everyone.
Travis, when it comes to typos you don’t have to worry about me calling you on them. It’s one advantage/disadvantage to being a dyslexic, they all look like typos some days. Well, I’m going to download the podcast and listen to it as I work on the farm this wonderful winter day while it’s snowing.
Yeah, Brent, but there’s no comparison between Travis’ book & Harry, A History! Whatever the benefits of Ms. Anelli’s work, I’m convinced it doesn’t rise to the level of Travis’ book.
Based on the fact that I’ve read more of Travis’ book in the 12 hours that I’ve had it than in the weeks that I’ve had Ms. Anelli’s book, I’d probably have to agree with you.
Travis, I just finished reading your book, and it is excellent! I remembered two of the chapters as your presentation topics from Portus 2008. Were any of the other chapters based on HP conference lectures you have done? I am curious. Anyway, it was a great read.
Hmph! I received an email that my book was sent via the US Postal Service last week. And according to the link it’s been sitting in my town since Dec. 22, and was delivered to my Post Office on December 24. And still, I don’t have it, because they decided not to deliver any mail this week due to the weather. Well, I guess they delivered some, but not if you live on a hill, which we do. Of course, this is the same hill that has been sanded numerous times, and is very passable.
Apparently that old postal vow no longer holds. You know, the one about delivering the mail, no matter what, in rain or sleet or snow, no longer applies. And the weird thing is, with all the news stories about the weather, not once did they mention that some areas weren’t getting their mail delivered.(I do have to admit that making the decision to ensure the safety of the mail carriers was the proper thing to do. But considering that we’ve been out and about since Monday but have had no mail all week, I’m just a tad annoyed. Besides, I want my book!
Pat
And I’m happy to say that the mail was delivered finally today – all those Christmas cards, a few bills, and best of all, I have my book! Yay!
Thank you, Travis, for signing it – and for the nice things you said; I really appreciate it. It made me remember when many of us met on John’s forum to discuss the Half-Blood Prince, and how delighted I was to find people who saw the same themes in the books after so many years of having people tell me that I was stretching to make it fit my own Christian beliefs. It’s been so wonderful to continue all those discussions, learning more about Harry Potter and more about all the people who drop in for a chat at the Hog’s Head, and at Hogwart’s Professor.
And now, I’m off to have a cup of tea and a piece of pumpkin pie, while I read a chapter or two before bedtime.
Pat (who is not quite so irritated with the Postal Service today)
