The Hunger Games fansite, Jabberjays.com, has created this amusing image in response to John’s and my blogging about the series. Yes, this is still a Harry Potter site, by the way, but there are a few reasons I’ve starting blogging on both The Hunger Games and LOST.
- Similar themes are explored. Obviously, there are innumerable books and stories that fit this criteria, but there’s a lot of energy around these particular two stories at present, so it’s a good springboard for exploring the themes and the literary concepts (like narrative misdirection – LOST, anyone, for brilliant narrative misdirection?).
- We’re in an interlibrum for both. Well, LOST is a TV show, but same idea: We’re in the final season, waiting for the very end to be revealed. And the third Hunger Games book, Mockingjay, is due out this summer, so there’s plenty of room for speculation.
So yes, we’ll be returning to more Potter commentary soon, but we’ll also be using other stories to explore the same themes. Hogwarts Castle is a gigantic magical structure with any number of stories to be heard, hidden rooms to find, and people and paintings to talk to. I like to think of the Harry Potter stories in much the same way: lots of windows and doors and paintings to walk through to see the same sort of storytelling.
If you’re interested in more reading on The Hunger Games, I obviously recommend you keep an eye on Hogwarts Professor for more of John’s commentary. But here are some of the Hunger Games sites that have been exploring the books in forums and blog posts for a while:

Travis, glad you enjoyed my little crossover image! And thanks for the mention. As a HP and HG fan, I love seeing others fans come together.
Actually I have never heard of The Hunger Games ^^;
What is Hunger Games??
Shannon and Jessica, it’s a trilogy of dystopian books, 2 of which are out already. The third is coming out this summer.
Really fantastic books.
Anna, this is hilarious! Thanks for the shout-out! I’m a huge HG fan and have pre-ordered Mockingjay. I hope you and friends at jabberjays will pop over here and at HogPro regularly; I’ll be over your way, too. (How about doing a HG book in Sawyer’s hands for us Losties. Heh.)
