Rapid-fire predictions. Thanks to commenter Reyhan for providing the list, which you will find below. It’s called “SybillCast” because this is your opportunity to be better at predictions than Trelawney (I know…shouldn’t be too difficult).
Please forgive the abysmal state of this podcast. I was hurrying to get it done, as I’ve been in the hospital wing for the past two days with some sort of stomach bug.
This week will be Deathly Hallows Week at SoG! This, of course, is Day One of DHW, and hopefully this podcast will generate some good discussion, despite how rushed and disjointed it is. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to get your predictions “on record.” This is not where you expound upon or defend your position. 1-2 sentences per subject, please, to keep the comments from running on forever. “Undecided” is a fair answer for any question.
Here’s the list, as provided by Reyhan, with two additions at the end by me:
- Snape’s Allegiance
- Petunia’s Secret
- Will Harry Pass Through the Veil?
- Will Harry die?
- What are the 6 horcruxes?
- How is a horcrux destroyed?
- How did Harry get his scar (or what is its nature)?
- Which characters will die?
- Who else was at Godric’s Hollow?
- Who is Gryffindor’s heir?
- Did Snape love Lily?
- Did Lily love Snape?
- What is Snape’s Patronus?
- How will Wormtail fulfill his life debt to Harry?
- Why does Snape have a “soft spot” for Draco and Narcissa? Or does he?
- Will Fenrir Greyback die, and who will kill him?
- How will Voldemort die?
- Why did Snape AK Dumbledore?
- Will anyone who “died” return?
- What is the meaning of “Deathly Hallows”?
- Which minor characters will become major in Book 7?
- What will happen with the house-elves?
- Other: What other issues need answering, and what are your predictions?

1. Snape’s Allegiance: Order.
2. Petunia’s Secret: Unknown.
3. Will Harry Pass Through the Veil? Unknown.
4. Will Harry die? No.
5. What are the 6 horcruxes? Slytherin’s Locket, Hufflepuff’s cup, Ravenclaws Wand, Nagini.
6. How is a horcrux destroyed? Each will be destroyed differently. Otherwise, unknown.
7. How did Harry get his scar (or what is its nature)? Unknown.
8. Which characters will die? I do not think there will nearly as many deaths as most commentators do. Some of the deaths will be in the epilogue and will involve deatheaters. The trio and Ginny will not die. Voldemort will be destroyed but may not die. Wormtail and Bellatrix definitely. Snape probably. At least one member of the Order will die, but it’s impossible to guess who. Oh, and Grebeck is a goner.
9. Who else was at Godric’s Hollow? Unknown.
10. Who is Gryffindor’s heir? Do we need to have an heir? If so, unknown.
11. Did Snape love Lily? Yes and no. I think he had a close relationship with her in school, probably bonding in potions, but I do not think that he joined the Order due to unrequited love.
12. Did Lily love Snape? No way! Eeeeyewwww!
13. What is Snape’s Patronus? We may never know. I’m not sure it’s important. (I like the spike theory though).
14. How will Wormtail fulfill his life debt to Harry? Don’t know. Will die for sure.
15. Why does Snape have a “soft spot†for Draco and Narcissa? Or does he? I don’t think he does.
16. Will Fenrir Greyback die, and who will kill him? Remus Lupin. Longbottom will kill Bellatrix. Gotta happen.
17. How will Voldemort die? Left behind the veil. Soul sucked out of him. I don’t think Harry will kill him directly but he will defeat him and Voldemort will be left permanently powerless or helpless.
18. Why did Snape AK Dumbledore? Dumbledore was dying (withered hand, stoppered death) and Dumbledore’s death, which was inevitable was used to cement Snape’s loyalty to Voldemort so he could be in a position to betray him at the right moment.
19. Will anyone who “died†return? No.
20. What is the meaning of “Deathly Hallows No idea. The horcruxes I guess.
21. Which minor characters will become major in Book 7? No idea.
22. What will happen with the house-elves? Wow, good question. Part of overcoming Voldemort. How? No idea.
23. Other: What other issues need answering, and what are your predictions? No predictions. Why did Voldemort choose to attack Harry instead of Neville? Why did Dumbledore know that made him so loyal to Snape? What really happened when Voldemort attacked baby Harry?
Fantastic Travis. Thanks to both guys for the question. So here we go…
1. Snape’s Allegiance: Himself
2. Petunia’s Secret: She was/still is a muggle spy for Dumbledore, relying any suspicious events from the muggle news, back to Dumbledore. Not even Vernon knows of this.
3. Will Harry Pass Through the Veil? No becuase once you pass through that, you’re gone.
4. Will Harry die? Yes
5. What are the 6 horcruxes? Diary, Ring, Locket, Cup, Ravenclaw’s Wand, Unknowen Gryffindor Relic, And NOT Nagini.
6. How is a horcrux destroyed? By using Harry’s blood.
7. How did Harry get his scar (or what is its nature)? It’s a symbolic link to Voldemort. Still a lot unknowen.
8. Which characters will die? Snape, Bellatrix, Wormtail, Malfoy, Harry, and Ginny. (Hagrid will get the prerieve, and take Harry’s body to the burial sight, as in he will send his soul of to the next life, as he brought Harry into his life as a wizard, thus making a full circle.)

11. Did Snape love Lily? Maybe
12. Did Lily love Snape? HELL NO. May have liked as a friend.
13. What is Snape’s Patronus? Cockroach
14. How will Wormtail fulfill his life debt to Harry? By dying for Harry.
15. Why does Snape have a “soft spot†for Draco and Narcissa? Or does he? Becuase having been loved at some point, he is able to feel and give off effection to others. It’s not romantic love, but the love an uncle/brother may give off to fellow family members.
16. Will Fenrir Greyback die, and who will kill him? I hope that he does, and I hope that it’s not Lupin. Lupin isn’t a killer. I hope Wormtail uses his silver hand…
17. How will Voldemort die? Does Harry have a scar?
18. Why did Snape AK Dumbledore? It’s all part of a big, awesome plan…
19. Will anyone who “died†return? No. No one can return. Dumbledore (Jo) has said as much. We’ll get close to the dead though.
20. What is the meaning of “Deathly Hallows Horcruxes, and it pertains to how they need to be destroyed.
21. Which minor characters will become major in Book 7? Abaforth and OR Olivander.
22. What will happen with the house-elves? They will kick major BUT!
23. Other: What other issues need answering, and what are your predictions? Oh I’m sure there are a few more. Fandom is full of them but I personally want to know what that gong like spell was that Dumbledore flung out to Voldemort during the Ministry battle. Jo has said it could be important AND Voldemort did know from that spell that Dumbledore was not wanting to kill him…
1. Snape’s Allegiance – Himself
2. Petunia’s Secret – unknown, although maybe she was adopted?
3. Will Harry Pass Through the Veil? no
4. Will Harry die? yes.
5. What are the 6 horcruxes?Diary, Ring, Locket, Cup, Ravenclaw’s Wand, Unknowen Gryffindor Relic, And NOT Nagini. AGREED AND COPIED THIS FROM ABOVE POSTER.
6. How is a horcrux destroyed? Harry’s Blood or another “not too crazy/complicated way”
7. How did Harry get his scar (or what is its nature)? unkwown.
8. Which characters will die? Agree with above poster-Snape, Bellatrix, Wormtail, Malfoy, Harry, and Ginny. Greyback, Hagrid will get the prerieve, and take Harry’s body to the burial sight, as in he will send his soul of to the next life, as he brought Harry into his life as a wizard, thus making a full circle.) Also possibly another weasley other than ginny. AND KRUM- who’s supposed to be in the book.
9. Who else was at Godric’s Hollow?
Wormtail.
10. Who is Gryffindor’s heir?
Dumbledore- possibly now Aberforth which will make him even more vital to the book.
11. Did Snape love Lily? Yes.
12. Did Lily love Snape? no
13. What is Snape’s Patronus? A bat.
14. How will Wormtail fulfill his life debt to Harry? Dying for Harry.
15. Why does Snape have a “soft spot†for Draco and Narcissa? Or does he? UNKNOWN.
16. Will Fenrir Greyback die, and who will kill him? I hope so, Lupin or Bill FLuer or Mrs. Weasley will kill him- hope its fluer.
17. How will Voldemort die? Harry will kill him, i think through some sort of self sacrifice.
18. Why did Snape AK Dumbledore? – stopper of death theory.
19. Will anyone who “died†return? No, but Rowling said that “Sirius had to die” so he might have some presence in some way.
20. What is the meaning of “Deathly Hallows Horcruxes and their destruction.
21. Which minor characters will become major in Book 7? Abaforth, Olivander, Trelawney.
22. What will happen with the house-elves? Travis’ prediction sounds great!
23. Other: What other issues need answering, and what are your predictions? THE “GLEAM OF TRIUMPH” in GOF and how it was important. Regulus’ backing out, Kreacher’s importance, harry being attacked instead of neville.
1. Snape’s Allegiance: Dumbledore
2. Petunia’s Secret: She knew Snape.
3. Will Harry Pass Through the Veil? Leaning towards no.
4. Will Harry die? No
5. What are the 6 horcruxes? Diary, Ring, Locket, Cup, Nagini, and Harry’s scar.
6. How is a horcrux destroyed? I think each horcrux will be destroyed in a different way. Harry’s blood may play a factor.
7. How did Harry get his scar (or what is its nature)? Voldemort intended to make a horcrux with Harry’s death, but things went wrong and the soul bit entered Harry instead.
8. Which characters will die? Voldemort, Bellatrix, Fenrir, Wormtail, probably Snape, Harry or Neville, Hagrid, maybe Ron.
9. Who else was at Godric’s Hollow? Wormtail
10. Who is Gryffindor’s heir? Harry, if it’s anyone…
11. Did Snape love Lily? Yes
12. Did Lily love Snape? I think she was kind to him…perhaps even friendly at one point, don’t think she had romantic feelings for him. So yes, but platonic love.
13. What is Snape’s Patronus? Spider or a fox…
14. How will Wormtail fulfill his life debt to Harry? Perhaps he’ll crush one of the horcruxes with his silver hand.
15. Why does Snape have a “soft spot†for Draco and Narcissa? Or does he? I believe Lucius is the closest thing to a best friend that Snape has. Snape’s been a sort of uncle to Draco.
16. Will Fenrir Greyback die, and who will kill him? Yes…Neville.
17. How will Voldemort die? Harry or Snape kills his body. Voldemort then tries to posess Harry (the last horcrux), Harry snuffs him out inside his head. Fawkes will help somehow.
18. Why did Snape AK Dumbledore? Dumbledore told him to. DD was already dying, so Snape followed through with the plan to get himself deep in the Dark Lord’s good graces.
19. Will anyone who “died†return? No. Unless you count Ollivander.
20. What is the meaning of “Deathly Hallows Probably refers to Horcruxes, but it may be a place name as well.
21. Which minor characters will become major in Book 7? Ginny and Luna ::crosses fingers::
22. What will happen with the house-elves? While I’d love to see a house-elf rebellion, I think they’ll be a fairly minor point in the story. Maybe some help from Dobby and/or Kreacher.
23. Other: What other issues need answering, and what are your predictions? We’re told someone will show signs of magic late in life. My first thought was Petunia, but now I’m thinking it might be Filch. I really think we’ll see some level of growth in Draco, otherwise he’s an absurdly boring character.
Thanks, Travis and Reyhan!
1. Snape’s Allegiance: Dumbledore
2. Petunia’s Secret: Undecided
3. Will Harry Pass Through the Veil? No
4. Will Harry die? No
5. What are the 6 horcruxes? Diary, Locket (Slytherin’s), Ring (GRYFFINDOR’S), Cup (Huffelpuff’s), Nagini, Unknown object from Ravenclaw.

11. Did Snape love Lily? Yes.
12. Did Lily love Snape? No.
13. What is Snape’s Patronus? Augurey.
14. How will Wormtail fulfill his life debt to Harry? Maybe he’ll die in trying to save him. Agree with Travis that he’ll play a tragic role.
15. Why does Snape have a “soft spot†for Draco and Narcissa? Or does he? He has a soft spot for Draco, maybe he feels responsible for him. He felt sorry for Narcissa in Spinner’s End, because he didn’t want her to lose her son.
16. Will Fenrir Greyback die, and who will kill him? He’ll probably die, undecided who kills him.
17. Why did Snape AK Dumbledore? Because Dumbledore asked him to do it. In order to save Draco and Harry. I believe he was aware of Harry’s presence.
18. Will anyone who “died†return? No.
19. What is the meaning of “Deathly Hallowsâ€? They’re items, some sort of “relics of deathâ€, not necessarily Horcruxes. Maybe some of them are.
20. Which minor characters will become major in Book 7? Emmeline Vance, Aberforce Dumbledore, Madame Pince perhaps.
21. What will happen with the house-elves? They’ll play a role in defeating Dumbledore. Not sure if their slavery will end, but they’ll strengthen their position.
22. Other: Emmeline Vance: Still alive, her death was faked.
23. Madame Pince: Eileen Prince, Snape’s mother.
Correction # 21: They’ll play a role in defeating Voldemort, of course.
I just read about the leak. I feel like crying. Something beautiful and exciting that we’ve all been anticipating for years has been slimed by a person who probably has no idea of the hurt and harm he has caused.
I’m writing this comment because I want to get my final thoughts down. It’s ok if it never gets posted. That’s not what it’s for.
I want to cry.
1. Snape’s Allegiance: Lily Evans. Dumbledore. Order.
2. Petunia’s Secret: She knew Snape.
3. Will Harry Pass Through the Veil? Yes.

6. How is a horcrux destroyed? Gryffindor blood.
7. How did Harry get his scar (or what is its nature)? JKR wanted a distinctive way to mark him. The mechanics are not important.
8. Which characters will die? Harry, Ron, Ginny, Neville, Greyback, Wormtail. Snape will survive and become Headmaster.
9. Who else was at Godric’s Hollow? Snape, Wormtail, Dumbledore
10. Who is Gryffindor’s heir? Harry (through his mother, whom I’m beginning to suspect was adopted)
11. Did Snape love Lily? YES
Did Lily love Snape? yes
12. What is Snape’s Patronus? Lily Evans
13. How will Wormtail fulfill his life debt to Harry? Push Voldemort through the veil.
14. Why does Snape have a “soft spot†for Draco and Narcissa? Or does he? Doesn’t want to see another mother die to save her child from Voldemort.
15. Will Fenrir Greyback die, and who will kill him? Argus Filch, who will also develop the ability to do magic very late in life, but will do so defending the children he’s been at war with all his life.
16. How will Voldemort die? He’ll go through the veil (pushed by Wormtongue) and won’t be able to come back because all the Horcruxes will have been destroyed.
17. Why did Snape AK Dumbledore? Orders is orders.
18. Will anyone who “died†return? Harry will give his life so Sirius Black can return.
19.What is the meaning of “Deathly Hallows the night that Voldemort murdered the Potters and was himself almost destroyed.
20. Which minor characters will become major in Book 7? Filch will do heroic magic; Madam (I am Prince) Pince will be revealed as Snape’s mum; also Aberforth and Ollivander will add major pieces to the puzzle.
21. What will happen with the house-elves? Dobby will start an Elf Liberation Movement (ELM); Kreacher will die after one last act of betrayal; Winky will keep on drinking.
22. Other: What other issues need answering, and what are your predictions? HArry will forgive Snape for betraying his parents when he realizes Snape loved his mother and has been working for Dumbledore ever since.
Reyhan, I can really, really understand your disappointment about the leak. I had the desperate, but obviously unrealistic hope that this wouldn’t happen. And I fear that I may have stumbled across a genuine spoiler already. But your prediction that Snape will survive and become headmaster cheered me up.
Thank you, Travis, for keeping this site safe!
Travis, thank you for your pubcast and for your warning! I’m so glad that it was the first I read when I turned on my computer. Fortunately, I haven’t run across any spoilers. But, unfortunately, I am too late for posting my “predictions†in time. And knowing that you could possibly read the book online already (if it is not a hoax) really spoiled most of the fun of writing them. Anyhow, here they are:
1. Snape is Dumbledore’s man through and through.
2. Petunia’s secret: No idea, except -> 10. (But “that “awful boy†was Snape.)
3. Harry will pass through the Veil (symbolically), but without his body. He will meet the dead in a kind of “Near Death Experienceâ€, possibly by drinking the Draught of Living Death.
4. Harry will not die. He will come back from -> 3., having overcome all fear of death.
5. Horcruxes: Diary, Peverell ring, Hufflepuff’s cup, Slytherin’s locket, Ravenclaw’s wand, Voldemort planned to turn Gryffindor’s sword into his final Horcrux with Harry’s death. “As we know, he failedâ€. No Nagini Horcrux.
6. A Horcrux is destroyed by means that are associated with the element of the Tarot symbol represented by the object (cups – water, coins – earth, wands – fire, swords – air).
7. Harry got his scar when Voldemort tried to kill him and to make a Horcrux (-> 5.), using Harry’s life energy / vital force. The AK rebounded, Harry lived, the soul piece entered Harry’s head. The spell was not completed, so Harry is not a Horcrux. Or Snape de-horcruxed him at Godric’s Hollow.
8. Snape will die sacrificially, I’m afraid. Probably Voldemort. Surely many others, don’t know who …
9. Godric’s Hollow: Peter was there as a rat, Frank Longbottom as a sentinel under James’s Invisibility Cloak. He informed Dumbledore who came with Snape and both performed some magic on Harry.
10. The heir of Gryffindor is Dudley. Wouldn’t that be great!
11. Snape loved Lily.
12. Lily loved Snape – in the sense of philos, not eros.
13. Snape’s Patronus is a unicorn, because of -> 11.
14. Peter is prepared to fulfil his life dept to Harry when Voldemort drops him. Don’t know how.
15. Snape doesn’t have a “soft spot†for Narcissa, but for children, always trying to protect them from harm, like Dumbledore. (Hard to believe, I know!)
16. Greyback will die, possibly killed by Tonks (wild guess).
17. Voldemort will either be killed by one of his allies (Death Eaters, Inferi, Dementors) or Nagini, or he will die from meddling with forces he doesn’t understand: “the power he knows notâ€.
18. Snape cast the AK reluctantly on Dumbledore’s own orders. But it didn’t kill him. He died later – like a Phoenix.
19. Nobody who died will return as a living person. But we will meet some of the dead. And -> 3., 4.
20. Deathly Hallows has several meanings: The Hogwarts founders; the remains of their bodies; their relics that Voldemort turned into Horcruxes; the Hogwarts graveyard or sanctuary; the afterlife (beyond the veil).
21. Aberforth Dumbledore (bezoar manufacturer) will be a major character in Book 7.
22. Some of the house-elves will fight on the side of the Order, they will be given wands and thus regain their full magical powers, they will gradually stop to “identify with the aggressor†(the slaveholders) and start their own S.P.E.W.
23. Why did Voldemort originally not plan to kill Lily?
When the whereabouts of someone or something are protected by the Fidelius Charm, the owner of the hiding place has to agree to it. When he/she dies, the Charm stops working. Lily was the owner of the Potters’ house and Voldemort knew it from Peter.
24. Does the Crumple-Horned Snorkack really exist?
Oh yes, it does! I hope we will meet one.
Happy reading next weekend!
Good for me I rarely read another posts then Gryffindorsword, I was not spoiled at all and I have just decided to set this post as my homepage. Anyway, I rather complete the quiz as soon as possible.
1. Snape’s Allegiance: Eyes of Lilly Potter.
2. Petunia’s Secret: She refused to do magic.
3. Will Harry Pass Through the Veil? No
4. Will Harry die? No
5. What are the 6 horcruxes?. Ring, Diary, Green Potion, Cup, Tiara and Harry Potter. In case I am allowed to add one more horcrux I am adding locket between diary and Green Potion.
6. How is a horcrux destroyed? No idea.
7. How did Harry get his scar (or what is its nature)? He was hit by green coloured horcrux creation spell.
8. Which characters will die? Granger, Voldemort, Lestrange, Greyback, Dolohov, Shebolt, Crookshank, Ginny Weasly, McGonagall, Flitwick and Fred Weasly. I exagarette. Still it is nothing compare to Hamlet.
9. Who else was at Godric’s Hollow? Daedalus Diggle.
10. Who is Gryffindor’s heir? Neville.
11. Did Snape love Lily? Yes.
12. Did Lily love Snape? Yes.
13. What is Snape’s Patronus? The very animal Lilly would have become if she had been animagus.
14. How will Wormtail fulfill his life debt to Harry? Wormtail will save Ron.
15. Why does Snape have a “soft spot†for Draco and Narcissa? Or does he? I do not think Snape has soft spot for Narcissa. Regarding Malfoy, Snape is just protecting young boy and his favourite student.
16. Will Fenrir Greyback die, and who will kill him? Yes, Fleur Weasly will kill him.
17. Why did Snape AK Dumbledore? It was time to complete a plan they had prepared in July.
18. Will anyone who “died†return? No.
19. What is the meaning of “Deathly Hallows Horcruxes.
20. Which minor characters will become major in Book 7? Daedalus Diggle.
21. What will happen with the house-elves? They enslavement will continue.
22. Other: Emmeline Vance: Still alive, her death was faked.
23. Voldemort did not want to loose such a valuable Death Eater like Severus Snape.
24. I do not think the Crumple-Horned Snorkack really exits. Luna Lovegoodn has sometimes very bright remarks, but some of her theories are really crazy. She is my favourite.
I’m not steeped in HP-lore and have a more casual interest in Rowling’s work, so much of the below may be plain misinformed. But anyway, it’s fun going on the record!
1. Snape’s Allegiance
Loyal to Dumbledore. I hesitate to say „good“ as so many rather simplistically do…
2. Petunia’s Secret
She has done something, which she feels amounts to the betrayal of her sister.
3. Will Harry Pass Through the Veil?
No. It’s called the Department of Mysteries for a good reason. Mysteries shall remain…
4. Will Harry die?
No.
5. What are the 6 horcruxes?
Who says there are exactly six horcruxes?
6. How is a horcrux destroyed?
No idea.
7. How did Harry get his scar (or what is its nature)?
A part of Voldemort’s soul got there. Whether that amounts to being a horcrux… dunno.
8. Which characters will die?
Hagrid, Snape, Bellatrix for starters. Probably Wormtail (my money’s on that). Not Voldemort. Neville? I’ll go with Neville being his generation’s sacrifice, if any.
9. Who else was at Godric’s Hollow?
Wormtail, some order member in the vicinity?
10. Who is Gryffindor’s heir?
The Chosen One.
11. Did Snape love Lily?
Yep. In his way.
12. Did Lily love Snape?
No.
13. What is Snape’s Patronus?
Me not know and not really care. Not a mammal.
14. How will Wormtail fulfill his life debt to Harry?
Yep.
15. Why does Snape have a “soft spot†for Draco and Narcissa? Or does he?
I pass.
16. Will Fenrir Greyback die, and who will kill him?
Pass.
17. How will Voldemort die?
He WON’T die. He’ll get the Dementor’s treatment. His first kiss! ïŠ
18. Why did Snape AK Dumbledore?
Because Dumbledore persuaded him to do so. Much to Snape’s despair.
19. Will anyone who “died†return?
No. Life’s tough, sometimes.
20. What is the meaning of “Deathly Hallows
Hallows -> holy? Anyway, I don’t anticipate it to be of truly major importance.
21. Which minor characters will become major in Book 7?
Aberforth, Petunia, Grawp, Olivander will rise in importance. Kreature, too.
22. What will happen with the house-elves?
Their lot will be improved, after having come to the good guys’ aid. But no wholesale emancipation just yet. Evolutionary progress.
23. Other: What other issues need answering, and what are your predictions?
I am not verey into all this speculation, but I will give a short comment on no. 10: Who is Gryffindor’s heir?
Do we need one? Wouldn’t it be interesting that we only found Slytherin’s heir, because the Slytherin’s were the only one’s so tied up to blood relations?
1)Snape’s Allegiance: Snape, and his idea of what is the best thing to do
2)Petunia’s Secret: I don’t know, but I’m guessing she hates cleaning house!
3)Will Harry Pass Through the Veil? Probably, the thing has to play a some major role other than Sirius’ death.
4)Will Harry die? Not literally
5)What are the 6 horcruxes? Who even knows what Voldy has collected over the years…
6)How is a horcrux destroyed? My guess is through something resembling an alchemical process, and I think this hints at Snape’s importance. He is a Potions Master, after all.
7)How did Harry get his scar (or what is its nature)? I’m wondering when Harry will really start putting it to work as his very own Voldy-sense.
8)Which characters will die? Voldemort seems obvious. But other than that, our discussions here at SoG have killed off almost every major character in the books for one reason or another. I would be willing to guess Snape–he’s shaping up to be something of a tragic figure, I think.
9)Who else was at Godric’s Hollow? I don’t know, but I wonder if this will help answer some questions about Harry’s scar…
10)Who is Gryffindor’s heir? I’d love it if it were the Weasleys (Arthur and the sword…)
11)Did Snape love Lily? I can’t see it as a romantic love. Perhaps he respected her. I’ve also pondered whether or not they might have been related in some fashion.
12)Did Lily love Snape? Nope
13)What is Snape’s Patronus? My first question would be what is Snape’s happy memory that allows him to cast it?
14)How will Wormtail fulfill his life debt to Harry? I’m still sure how/why he has to.
15)Why does Snape have a “soft spot†for Draco and Narcissa? Or does he? He certainly does for Draco. His treatment of Draco is so markedly different from that of Harry, and we’ve seen enough to think there’s something to their relationship. But I don’t have any good idea why.
16)Will Fenrir Greyback die, and who will kill him? I don’t think Greyback will leave much choice. He seems to take too much glee in his actions.
17)How will Voldemort die? I don’t know.
18)Why did Snape AK Dumbledore? I’m not convinced that he did. HBP is our first good look at Levicorpus from the potions book.
19)Will anyone who “died†return? Not literally, no…
20)What is the meaning of “Deathly Hallows This has to be something to do with the Horcruxes and destroying them via an alchemical process.
21)Which minor characters will become major in Book 7? The elves, Neville and Ginny are my best guesses. But if house unification is important, then there’s a whole host of students and teachers to work with–a large, multifaceted army kicking Death Eater butt. And we have yet to see McGonagall get really good and fired up magically.
22)What will happen with the house-elves? At this point, I like the house-elf insurrection theory so much that I’ll be disappointed if it doesn’t happen. They’re clearly extremely powerful magical creatures. Armed with wands, they’d be one hell of a guerilla force.
Kjetil, you have a point. That would fit very well, thematically.
1. Snape’s Allegiance: to
Dumbledore and Fawkes will show this!
4. Harry won’t die.
5. Horcruxes: diary, ring, Tom Riddle’s Award for Services to the School (heavily featured in CoS.), a Ravenclaw tiara found in the Room of Requirement (though for humor I would have it be a Ravenclaw heirloom: Luna’s butter beer cork necklace), Slytherin’s locket, and Nagini.
9. Probably Peter was at Godric’s Hollow
10. Snape loved and still loves Lily.
15. Snape does not have to have a soft spot for any of the baddies. For the last three years he has had to have the right kind of memories for Voldemort to find in is mind so Snape could keep his life! His early bad treatment of Harry and Neville were partly his sarcastic bullying nature and the fact that Lily was killed rather than either one of them.
18. How about the unbreakable vow? If Snape vowed to carry out Draco’s task, he had to kill Dumbledore or he would die. If that is correct, decision had to be made whether Snape or Dumbledore was more important to keep alive for the last battle—it was evident that Snape was more important to keep alive.
23. a. Perhaps we will find out more about Neville’s background and whether he was present when his parent’s were tortured; thus traumatizing him and slowing down the development of his magic powers.
b. We may find out that Slughorn is a real baddie! There were many derogatory slugs in CoS. I do not believe Draco could have achieved what he did during HBP without help.
Travis: I am only reading Sword of Gryffindor right now to keep from spoilers!
Omens I have been vouchsafed . . .
1. Snape’s Allegiance: Dumbledore/Order/Harry
2. Petunia’s Secret: She was jealous of Lily’s magical ability.
3. Will Harry Pass Through the Veil? No.
4. Will Harry die? Not literally, but perhaps another figurative death.
5. What are the 6 horcruxes? Diary (destroyed), Peverell ring (destroyed), Nagini, Hufflepuff cup (it’s in the trophy room), Ravenclaw tiara (may currently be in the Room of Requirement), and Slytherin locket (last seen at 12GP)
6. How is a horcrux destroyed? After any curses, traps, and other dark protective devices placed on or around the Horcrux have been removed or managed, I think the Horcrux object needs to be physically broken open to enable the soul fragment to escape; whether a specific spell is required for this remains to be seen.
7. How did Harry get his scar (or what is its nature)? Lily’s death invoked a powerful, ancient, protective magic around Harry that had a physical component via blood magic. Just as an Avada Kedavra curse will physically damage an inanimate object it hits (like the cracked headstone in the graveyard), Voldemort’s AK hit that magical physical barrier and cut Harry’s forehead open before rebounding on Voldemort; the barrier prevented anything evil from crossing into Harry’s body, but did allow some of Voldemort’s morally neutral powers to cross over and enabled a two-way mental connection between the two. ***See extra below on Dark Mark tattoo as scar per Harry (can’t stop myself, Travis).
8. Which characters will die? Snape (redemptive), at least one loveable Weasley but not Ginny, a few of the Order members, Voldemort (unless he’s Kissed instead), Bellatrix, Lucius, Greyback, Wormtail, various other Death Eaters. If the school is open during DH, then some teachers and students might die.
9. Who else was at Godric’s Hollow? Other than James, Lily, Harry, and Voldemort, Wormtail was there and it’s possible that an Order member like Mrs. Figg was nearby and went to investigate shortly afterward.
10. Who is Gryffindor’s heir? Salazar Slytherin’s isolation and paranoia are reflected in the dwindling of his line to the inbred Gaunts and their self-destructive choices, so it’s not a shock that the line ultimately devolved to one lone psychopath. But Godric Gryffindor was philosophically opposed to Salazar, so if there’s a pattern there regarding descendents, I would expect there to be several living families in Godric’s line in keeping with his openness and generosity; the Dumbledores and Weasleys are prime candidates, and there’s no reason why the Potters couldn’t be in Godric’s line.
11. Did Snape love Lily? Romantic love, yes.
12. Did Lily love Snape? Romantic love, no, although she may have cared about him and respected his abilities. I love the PoA description of Lily as an uncommonly kind witch who was able to see the good in people even when they weren’t able to see it in themselves.
13. What is Snape’s Patronus? There’s a lot of spider imagery used with Snape and a lot of bat imagery, so either of those would be supportable guesses. However, I do love the theory that his Patronus is a griffin (it’s either Mary’s theory or Pat’s – I can’t recall.)
14. How will Wormtail fulfill his life debt to Harry? How precisely, I don’t know, but I believe he will die fulfilling the life debt.
15. Why does Snape have a “soft spot†for Draco and Narcissa? Or does he? I don’t know that Snape has any real love or admiration for the Malfoys, but it’s nevertheless possible that he sincerely wants to keep Draco from following Voldemort and genuinely sympathized with Narcissa when Voldemort used Draco to punish Lucius.
16. Will Fenrir Greyback die, and who will kill him? I hope he dies. Rowling said Peter Pettigrew’s silver hand won’t be used in werewolf-killing; poetic justice says Lupin, Bill, or Fleur will do the deed but I can’t convince myself that any of them will out-and-out kill him. Maybe Draco will do it since Greyback has been used to threaten him and may have already bitten him.
17. How will Voldemort die? My gut says Voldemort will come to his final end in the Department of Mysteries but I don’t know if he’ll be finished off in the Love Room or through the Veil (perhaps both will be involved). I do believe, since Voldemort is terrified of dying, that his end will have to be final enough to prevent his spirit from remaining behind as a ghost.
18. Why did Snape AK Dumbledore? Dumbledore was technically dead from the curse on the ring (Stoppered Death Theory) and the end of his existence on this plane was nigh after drinking 12 goblets of poison in the cave. Dumbledore planned for Snape to kill him if Draco managed to pull something off before Dumbledore passed on his own, thereby saving Draco from becoming a murderer and enabling Snape to improve his standing with Voldemort and be in a better position to help Harry.
19. Will anyone who “died†return? No magic can return the dead to life, but we’ve seen the dead communicate through portraits, shades (as in Priori Incantatem), and pensieve memories. Ghosts are another possibility, but I don’t see Dumbledore or any other sensible character choosing that path.
20. What is the meaning of “Deathly Hallows Multiple meanings (clever Rowling) in the phrase: Founders’ graves, Founders’ objects, Horcruxes, the hiding places of Horcruxes, the quest to find the Horcruxes, etc. Covered in my LJ post on DH: http://felicitys-mind.livejournal.com/4373.html
21. Which minor characters will become major in Book 7? Luna, Aberforth
22. What will happen with the house-elves? Elves will take part in the fight against Voldemort and may be armed with wands from Ollivander per Travis (or not, but will still fight against Voldemort). I don’t think their position in wizarding society will be dramatically changed since they have to want to change and most do not at present; however, that doesn’t mean their lot won’t be improved (just because they want to serve doesn’t mean they want to be abused).
23. Other: What other issues need answering, and what are your predictions? Covered in all responses before mine.
***(Add to Q.7) Merlin at Muggle Matters recently noted that in OotP, Harry referred to the Dark Mark tattoos as “Death Eaters’ scars.†This is interesting because the Dark Marks are Voldemort’s means of communicating with his DE’s and Harry’s scar enables a mental link between Harry and Voldemort. The Death Eaters are not Horcruxes but they are magically linked to Voldemort by this “scarâ€; it’s not the same as Harry’s two-way link with the addition of a power transfer, but Harry’s scar, powers, and link were formed during an extremely unusual magical event that favored baby Harry against Voldemort whereas the Dark Marks were formed deliberately with a one-way limited magical ability that Voldemort controls for his benefit alone. Anyhoo, it appears that Rowling slipped that one in quietly because I never noticed it after two readings (the second one a very close reading).
Felicity, very, very glad to see you back here for the final few days.
All: After giving some thought to these issues since the rapid-fire podcast, where I looked at the list for the first time, here’s my list in print form, with some minor variations from and a few more commitments than the podcast. For a lot of this, you only have to have read Felicity’s responses, which I cannot improve upon:
1. Snape’s Allegiance – Dumbledore
2. Petunia’s Secret – Agree with Felicity: jealous of Lily
3. Will Harry Pass Through the Veil? No
4. Will Harry die? No, not physically
5. What are the 6 horcruxes? Agree with Felicity, though I’m still hesitant about Nagini
6. How is a horcrux destroyed? Getting around the curse protection is the hard part. Physical damage to the object destroys the soul piece, it appears.
7. How did Harry get his scar (or what is its nature)? Agree with Felicity, though I won’t be disappointed or surprised if ScarCrux ends up being correct.
8. Which characters will die? Not answering, because I think I’ve been spoiled on this.
9. Who else was at Godric’s Hollow? Wormtail
10. Who is Gryffindor’s heir? I don’t think the story so far mandates that we have one, but I agree with Felicity – he’s probably got lots of descendants.
11. Did Snape love Lily? Romantic love, yes.
12. Did Lily love Snape? Not romantically
13. What is Snape’s Patronus? Spider. Alternates: Bat, Augurey (“Irish Phoenix”)
14. How will Wormtail fulfill his life debt to Harry? Self-sacrificially (no, I didn’t see his name anywhere, which doesn’t mean anything, because I never saw a complete list)
15. Why does Snape have a “soft spot†for Draco and Narcissa? Or does he? He does care for Draco, and there may very well be some connection to regret over his inability to save the Potters
16. Will Fenrir Greyback die, and who will kill him? Yes – Draco. Other possibilities: Lupin, Bill
17. How will Voldemort die? In the Death Room, through the Veil. It’ll have something to do with Harry’s blood, too, and I agree with Felicity – the Love Room will be involved. I’m not ruling out the sword, though.
18. Why did Snape AK Dumbledore? Stoppered Death – see Felicity
19. Will anyone who “died†return? No literal resurrections, no. All “deaths” so far have been real ones. Sirius, Cedric, and Dumbledore are dead.
20. What is the meaning of “Deathly Hallowsâ€? Founders Relics, related to graveyard – whole theory expounded here.
21. Which minor characters will become major in Book 7? Aberforth, Trelawney, Luna
22. What will happen with the house-elves? Fight against Voldemort, especially during attempted Hogwarts takeover. They’re still many years and many long political and psychological battles away from freedom, though.
23. Other: What other issues need answering, and what are your predictions? None for me.
Added thought: Very fascinating reflections, Felicity, based on Merlin’s find.
I just listened to the pubcast.
Travis, you sound the least stressed and happiest that I have heard you on a pubcast yet!
Is it the excitment of the impending release or a residual effect of anti-stomach bug drugs?

Matthew
Felicity,
Regarding your point 16. ROwling said that Pettigrew’s hand won’t be used to kill Lupin- not that it won’t kill a werewolf.

Matthew
Maybe on of the questions here should have been “Who is R.A.B?”
Me= undecided
Matthew
Sorry for the multiple posts, but…
Travis,
You mention in the Pubcast that ROwling doesn’t rule out any more Harry book and how could there be if Harry was dead. She could still do heaps in the “Harry Potter” universe even if Harry bought the big one.
There’s reams of back-story to divulge. I think Dumbledore’s defeat of Grindlewald would be a winner.
Matthew
I put my predictions in a post on my blog, so go there to read them. I’m having trouble typing due to an injury to my hand and had to have the ability to save, stop, and go back several times to type this long of a post, so I couldn’t see doing it here.
Note: I mention spoilers in my post but I don’t tell any. I’ve managed to miss them, and I explain some of that in the post but you don’t have to worry you’ll get spoiled at my blog (at least not till sometime next week).
Here’s the link:

Thanks, Travis and Reyhan. These are great questions.
Matthew, the identity of RAB is an important question we missed. It could be #24.
Here are some others:
Is there a meaning in the prophecy which we’ve missed: does it mean something different than what we commonly assume, i.e. that either Harry or Voldemort has to die for the other to survive? (#25)
What is explanation for Dumbledore’s anguished ramblings after he drank the green potion of awfullness? Was he speaking as himself, or chanelling someone else, and if so, whom? (#26)
What is the meaning of the “gleam of triumph” in Dumbledore’s eye in book 4 after he learns about the transfusion? (#27)
What is the meaning of Dumbledore’s cryptic phrase “But in essence divided?” to the fragile silver instrument which produces the green smoke serpent in book 5? And why the look of “grim satisfaction”? (#28)
Who is the “he” of “He’ll kill me for losing his ring” that Morfin refers to when he talks about losing Marvolo’s ring in book 6? (#29)
Here are my guesses:
#24: RAB is Regulus Black
#25: I don’t know if the prophecy can be interpreted differently. JKR is clever enough and deceptive enough that it could be.
#26: The potion contained the memories of someone whom Voldemort tortured or forced to do something pretty awful. It could be a subplot, or it could be central, depending on who the person was and what it was they were being forced to do. I’d keep an eye on this one.
#27: The “gleam of triumph” obviously means that the blood transfusion was not in Voldemort’s best long term interests. But how it will work against him is something I’ve long pondered, without any satisfactory answers. Something about the blood is bad for him, or will prove to be bad for him. What is that something? It’s “LilyPotterness”, or it’s “Gryffindorness”, or possibly, just its “HarryPotterness”?
#28. The snake represents both Harry and Voldemort, not just Voldemort. So it’s no longer a symbol or servant of just Voldemort. This is where Harry’s parseltongue might come in useful.
#29. The “he” Morfin refers to could be Marvolo’s Inferi or ghost. A lot depends on the Peverell family, whose crest features a lion. The ring could be Gryffindor’s (as someone above has suggested), in which case the “he” could be GG????
1. Snape’s Allegiance: Dumbledore
2. Petunia’s Secret: Jealous of Lily, or was expelled from Hogwarts in her first year.
3. Will Harry Pass Through the Veil?: Not likely
4. Will Harry die?: No. And if he does, he will be resurrected because of his potential as a Christ figure.
5. What are the 6 horcruxes?: The locket in Grimmauld place, probably Nagini, (insert 4 more good educated guesses here). I had a fleeting thought that the list of items found in the dresser in Grimmauld Place were quite possibly all horcruxes, but I doubt it.
6. How is a horcrux destroyed?: Not a clue, I’d say it might vary by Horcrux though.
7. How did Harry get his scar (or what is its nature)?: He got his scar the way we’ve always been told–the rebound of the avada kedavra curse. As for it’s nature, I believe there is a definite mental link between Harry and Voldemort, as we’ve seen in the series, but it’s other purposes, I’m not sure.
8. Which characters will die?: Snape, Voldemort, probably Peter Pettigrew, mathematically speaking, I’d say it’s near impossible for a Weasley NOT to die.
9. Who else was at Godric’s Hollow?: I think Snape was there, probably. JKR said he wasn’t there under an invisibility cloak, but I don’t think that necessarily means he wasn’t there.
10. Who is Gryffindor’s heir?: I’d say it’s Harry, or the Weasleys.
11. Did Snape love Lily?: Sure did.
12. Did Lily love Snape?: Nope, she just is nice to everyone.
13. What is Snape’s Patronus?: I’d say it’s a bat.
11. How will Wormtail fulfill his life debt to Harry?: By dying trying to protect Harry. He was in Gryffindor for a reason, so his bravery will eventually come out.
12. Why does Snape have a “soft spot†for Draco and Narcissa? Or does he?: I’d say he’s still close with the Malfoys, even though Lucius is still a faithful Deatheater. (This is of course, assuming that Snape is loyal to Dumbledore and that Lucius was probably a friend to Snape in school, not letting him get beat up too badly and that sort of thing).
13. Will Fenrir Greyback die, and who will kill him?: Yes, I’d say Bill might, but definitely not Lupin. Not his style. Maybe Wormtail will.
14. How will Voldemort die?: At Harry’s hand.
15. Why did Snape AK Dumbledore?: It’s a part of some huge plan that they had that has not been revealed yet.
16. Will anyone who “died†return?: I think it’s possible.
17. What is the meaning of “Deathly Hallowsâ€?: I like Travis’s theory of it having something to do with the founders. Makes sense.
18. Which minor characters will become major in Book 7?: Great question. I’d say the House Elves, and the lesser known members of the DA will become major.
19. What will happen with the house-elves?: Again, I’m going with Travis’ theory here of the House Elf Army armed with Olivander’s wands.
Other: What other issues need answering, and what are your predictions?: Draco will be redeemed, Neville will rise up and kick some butt (avenging his parents against the Lestranges), also, I’d like to know what has become of the mirror Sirius had that he had given Harry to communicate with him for Christmas in OotP.
Minor edit to #10: After seeing the image of Godric Gryffindor on JKR’s website (he’s July’s Wizard of the month), the Weasleys are definitely heirs of Gryffindor. Especially with names like Arthur and Ginevra, and songs like “Weasley is Our King.”
I think that the answer to #24 is the same as the answer to #26: RAB is Regulus Black, and it was Black Dumbledore was “channelling” after he drank the green potion of awfullness.
Evidence?
In OotP, when Sirius B. is showing Harry the family tree tapestry, he says of his brother:
“‘From what I found out after he died, he got in so far, then panicked about what he was being asked to do and tried to back out. Well, you don’t just hand in your resignation to Voldemort. It’s a lifetime of service or death.’”
Dumbledore’s potion-induced words are:
“‘I don’t want … don’t make me … don’t like … want to stop …I don’t want to … I don’t want to … let me go …It’s all my fault, all my fault … please make it stop. I know I did wrong, oh, please make it stop and I’ll never, never again …”
Which sort of fits the idea that Regulus backed out because he didn’t like what he was asked to do.
