That was an interesting Pubcast.
The whole idea of imagination is amazing.
I wondering about the danger of imagination too. Not so much the mis-use of imagination but the over-use.. maybe. Something about dreams and discerning what’s just a dream and what may imaginatively interpreted. Also, seeing omens in everything I thin is dangerous.
How do we receive training in what’s the responsible limit of imagination? Can your imagination be broken? And what does that lead to?

Maybe a bit incoherent but what are you going to do?

Korg, you do bring up an interesting point. You think about mental illness, for example, and the kinds of terrible things that can happen as a result of an “untamed” imagination. But I think the main point of Chesterton, as highlighted by Travis, is that imagination must also be rooted in a moral compass. Otherwise, you can end up like Volemort, who, because of his mental instability and lack of morality, uses his imagination to erase his own humanity and manipulate others. Or even the satire of Trelawny, who uses dreams and imagination for her own validation as a person.

Great Pubcast!

Hey Travis, I just listened to the podcast today. Loved hearing part of Rowling’s speech again! By the way, I think your idea of breaking down your HP and Imagination into smaller topics is great. I enjoyed the book, but there was A LOT in there to digest. Really could have been three separate books, as you point out! Looking forward to reading the “accessible” versions as well. :)

Really enjoyed this Pubcast guys.

What a gift we have within us in imagination and all too often it is ignored or left off the shelf of the human mind in our culture.

Stephen Covey gives us this thought that goes so very well with J K Rowling’s speech at Harvard, “Every human has four endowments- self awareness, conscience, independent will and creative imagination. These give us the ultimate human freedom… The power to choose, to respond, to change.”

I think the Potter Pundits hit this point very well.

Travis (or anyone who might happen to know) is there a reason why only a few of the older (not on itunes) podcasts will download and the rest only come up with errors? I thought it was due to using someone else’s computer the other day when I borrowed it to download some podcasts quickly before heading out of town, but now I’m back to my own computer and its still the same ones that won’t download…
