Joss Whedon’s Firefly View-Through

by korg20000bc on February 12, 2010

On the Hog’s Head forum we’re beginning a view-through of Joss Whedon’s brilliant Sci/Fi series Firefly.

This is an excellently conceived, written, acted and produced series that is well worth your time and won’t insult your intellect. Just the sort of series that Fox likes to axe.

We’ll be going through the series episode by episode in the order intended by Whedon. Not, I repeat NOT, in the order Fox decided to air them.
1 “Serenity”
2 “The Train Job”
3 “Bushwhacked”
4 “Shindig”
5 “Safe”
6 “Our Mrs. Reynolds”
7 “Jaynestown”
8 “Out of Gas”
9 “Ariel”
10 “War Stories”
11 “Trash”
12 “The Message”
13 “Heart of Gold”
14 “Objects in Space”

Discussion will begin on 15th Feb. If you wish to join and contribute your valuable insights please limit your discussion to the current episode or any preceding episodes- ie. Don’t get ahead of the story arc.

I’m looking forward to this. I just watched the first episode last night, and absolutely loved it.

Travis,

What is the timeline for viewing the episodes? One a week, with the first episode discuss started as stated on the 15th? I recently watched the series, and my personal feeling is that it was excellent!

Hi,
Starting with the first episode on the 15th. 2nd episode some few days after that.
It’ll depend on the strength of the discussion.
Also, some people don’t have constant access to the series so better to have discussion while things are fresh in people’s minds.

Travis, I’m really glad you enjoyed the first episode.

Please tell me that there will be a viewing/discussion of the follow-up movie Serenity as well. You can’t talk about Firefly and leave out what is (in my opinion) Joss Whedon’s greatest masterpiece…. Perhaps another time?

Ned,
Of course! Serenity too. Also “Those Left Behind” the interim comic.

Yay! I’m excited for this. After a great deal of badgering from some friends in college, I gave in and watched the show while sick in bed loved it! We own the series and Serenity.
For those who don’t have the dvds, I believe Firefly is still available on Hulu and netflix.

I love Firefly! My niece gave me the DVDs and I’ve watched all but two episodes. Now I can watch those two in good company.

Love, Love, Love this! I will try to watch the episodes online since I don’t own the series. Let’s talk about the movie too when it’s all over.

What a fantastic idea! (I’m so glad you enjoyed the pilot, Travis!) I’m actually writing an essay on Firefly and Serenity now for an upcoming collection about Joss Whedon, so the timing couldn’t be better. Browncoats unite!
