Mr. Pond Interviews Travis

by Travis Prinzi on February 4, 2010

Pub Patron “Mr. Pond” has a great blog, if you didn’t already know: The Paradoxes of Mr. Pond. Last week, we had a great phone conversation which he’s written up into three parts. I hope you enjoy it, and do subscribe to Mr. Pond’s blog if you haven’t already!

So stoked that you are dong a character book, Travis! Are you going to be nice to Ron, or blast him like you have hinted at? But I was thinking while reading Harry Potter and Imagination (just finished it- fabulous!) that I hadn’t read a character study yet, just a few essays here and there. But some of your hints in HPI totally whetted my appetite. And of course the pundit bit on Luna- which again I ask- when will you guys do Neville?

Anyway, thanks for tracking back to your chats with Mr Pond!

I’ll be nice to Ron ;-) In fact, I think Ron will be one of the more challenging chapters, and I’m determined to do him justice.

I’d love to do a show on Neville. The list of possible shows is just so long! I’ll run it by the guys. Whether we get to it soon or not, there is definitely a Neville chapter in my book.

I read part one and am looking forward to reading 2 and 3. It’s so strange to think of you ever thinking of the Harry Potter books as evil, Travis! I can’t imagine it. So glad you read the books, as fandom would be missing out without your work.

Really excellent interview! I cracked up over the Calvinist Cage, and appreciate the paleo-orthodoxy definition. That fairytales, even without direct Christian connotation (a la Tolkein) take us through the portal to greater Reality, but that some “obliquely” specific references don’t hinder that, a la HP and LOST.

Everyone should read Travis’ books!

And I look forward to the character study book. Book!Ron is a great character, severely undermined by Film!Ron, and also by his own crisis-driven defection in DH. Ron most often reflects what is best about the human spirit.

Really looking forward to the new book on characters. I just finished Harry Potter and Imagination and loved it.
