I’m not even sure I want to watch it, although I know I will, since Penny said something over at HP Progs about Gambon’s performance. Arggh!!! I don’t want to go down that road again. Maybe Red Rocker will do it for me?
I don’t know about anyone else, but I had to watch the trailer several times because at times I couldn’t understand Gambon. I thought this trailer was pretty good although releasing another trailer this early could be torture for many Potter fans who are still angry over the release date moved to next July.
Well, it may well have been leaked since it says it’s coming “this year” – or was the international trailer that was long-rumored in August-September but never showed up when the date changed. If it was the “real deal” from WB it would say something like “Summer 2009″ at the end. Or perhaps somebody in merchandising is worried about the Halloween inventory?
Okay, just watched the trailer for the first time. Let’s just say I could do with much less of Gambon & leave it at that. The rest of the trailer makes me eager to see the film, though. Being a big shipper, I don’t think the romance stuff in the film’s going to bother me as much as it might other people. We’ll see. I did like the final bit of the trailer where Harry’s joking about being the Chosen One.
Oh, and I’m still not too sure what to think about this added scene of the Burrow being attacked. Generally I dislike things that are created out of nothing & put into the story but hopefully it will work out in the film when seen in context.
revgeorge, always happy to oblige, but it’s hard to find too much fault with Gambon’s readings. Unless of course you’re one of those people who has difficulty comprehending why the most powerful wizard in the world, nearing the fruition of long-laid plans which will destroy his foe (who happens to be the greatest dark wizard the wizarding world has ever known) finds it necessary to speak in an exhausted, dispirited, die-away voice, as if he barely has enough breath or life left in him to utter his lines.
Listen to where he places the emphasis. Listen to the complete lack of power or force:
“This is beyond anything I’d imagined”
“This time I can not hope to destroy it alone.”
“Once again, I must ask too much of you, Harry”
“This is a different kind of magic. Very dark. Very powerful
Try saying the word “alone” the way Gambon says it. Ask yourself how it makes you feel. Introspective. Wistful. Dainty.

Yeah I noticed the “this year” bit just now in my recent viewing of the trailer.

“but I AM the Chosen One…” WHAP!!
HA!
Totally not in the book, but I have to admit it was a good line
I agree. That scene where Harry says he’s the Chosen One is a good one, and a good line too.

Brilliant.
As in, the complete opposite of.
As in, a complete misreading of his lines.
As in, he just doesn’t get it.
