I suggested, upon hearing the news of the delay of the Half-Blood Prince movie, that the only silver lining to the news would be for Azkatraz 2009 attendees. The LA Times got a note from a member of Team Azkatraz, Heidi Tandy, saying that very thing. There is no way they’ll be able to accommodate everyone from Azkatraz planning to go to that movie, which means they’ll either have to rent more theaters, or Azkatraz attendees will have to find their own theaters. Either way, there won’t be an empty seat in San Francisco for the midnight showing. Might be wise for a few theaters to open up extra midnight showings, given that there may be 1,000 more people than usual looking for seats!
There’s lots of time to plan in advance for Azkatraz…I’d love to see a big Hog’s Head contingency there. Anyone planning to go?

revgeorge, you’re funny. I went to Lumos 2006 because, at least, it was on the right side of the country for me. My hubby just kept looking at me like I’d slipped a cog, and was highly offended that I’d planned the trip without inviting him along. (My daughter and son-in-law went with me.) But really–does it make sense to invite someone to a Harry Potter convention when they haven’t read any of the books and haven’t even seen all the movies? I figured he’d be bored to tears, so I didn’t think he’d even want to go. (He ended up going to Spokane to visit his brother and turned it into a photog trip–good choice.)
So, I’ll be here instead of San Francisco, lest we have another family disagreement.
But your comment about the theaters made me wonder how it is in other cities. Here, they do pre-sales for the midnight show–you can’t count on getting a ticket if you walk up at midnight. But once they fill a theater they open sales for another screen. I think most of the HP movies I’ve gone to have been shown on 3 to 5 screens in the theater–and the other theaters do the same. It’s only the ones, like the Cinerama, or the IMAX ones that have just one screen where it would be a problem to get tickets for the midnight show.

I am coming, and my husband is already thinking of papers he wants to present! Portus was really a fun time for us…. Not the most mainstream experience we’ve ever had, but really fun.
revgeorge, I plan a couple of presentations, of course, but let’s talk about panel options. Leanne, it’ll be good to see you and Dave again – and do you think Dave (and/or you?) would want to join the panel revgeorge and I are spontaneously planning?
Travis, you can count me in on this idea, unless you feel the panel would be getting too large.
It would be great to be presenting on a panel with yourself, revgeorge, Dave and Leanne and/or other Hogs Head pros.
I greatly enjoyed meeting Dave and Leanne, Greg and Penny at Portus 2008 and hope we can possibly work together on a panel presentation at Azkatraz.
Any thoughts on the subject we should focus on?
If there is diversity of opinion about the nature of Dumbledore (and I suspect there is) it might be cool to have different members of the panel present their different views of Dumbledore: Dumbledore, Saint or Sinner?
Or if there is diversity about the nature of King’s Cross – is it real, is it a near-death experience? – then the panel could argue that.
All you need is a topic on which one or more of you strongly disagree.
It would be fun for the audience.
