About Moe W

Background - The women in my family have been herbal healers for generations. This was a necessity because of where they lived and the economic situation back then. Since there were either no medical doctors, or the methods the doctors used were primitive and borderline sadistic, it was often more prudent for the community, at that time, to get healing advice from the village's Wise Women. Maybe this is the reason I have always had such a strong inclination to study herbs and what they can do. My study of herbology is mainly for the medicinal benefits for myself and my family, but I have found, in order to have a full understanding of the subject, I have had to also study the vast history, lore and legends as well as the belief systems pertaining to their uses. I hope to use this knowledge to explore several areas of the Harry Potter books. My education/employment – I both received a degree & was employed in chemistry. Chemistry has been very useful in many other areas of my life. I use it often in my herbal work. My personality - I wonder and I seek. A few of the authors I like besides J.K.Rowling - Tolkien, Arthur Conan Doyle, Heinlein, Joseph Campbell, Lewis Carroll, Madeleine L'Engle, Ursula La Guin, George R. Steward, Hans Christian Andersen, The Brothers Grimm, Travis Prinzi, and John Granger. Currently reading -The Simarillion by Tolkien with help from the Tolkien Professor, Corey Olsen. This time I am determined to really understand it. So far so good.

  1. Chapters 1-3 are available. It stops at chapter 4.
There are several mistakes in the text.
Lots of new and interesting information about the Malfoy family.
A good change added. You get house points as you collect stuff.

  2. Great news, Moe!

I thought we had been getting house points for collecting stuff in Sorcerer’s Stone. That’s actually the only way I’ve gotten my 39 house points, since they sure weren’t earned in dueling or potion-making… 🙂

  3. Thanks for the post, Moe!

I’m terribly disappointed that Ravenclaw didn’t win the House Cup. I wonder how the Slytherins managed to cheat. 😉

As for the points, I too think you’ve always been able to get points for collecting things. I know I never got any for potions brewing or wizard dueling, which I find insanely difficult. But apparently some people are able to do them quite well because otherwise I don’t know how some people have point totals in the tens of thousands.

  4. Thanks cbiondi and revgeorge for the correction about getting house points as items were collected items in SS. I obviously was not paying attention. 😉

  5. No problem, Moe. It looks, though, like they wipe clean the points slate for each person with the opening of a new book. I had 39 points from SS, but then had zero when I went started on CoS. I now have a whopping 13 points, but there are only three chapters up for CoS. My computer at home is not very advanced, so I’m having trouble de-gnoming the garden….

  6. I think they wiped the points to coincide both with the opening of the new book and also the awarding of the House Cup, since the winners, Slytherins, got to enter the new book first.

  7. cbiondi, there is a trick to de-gnoming. You have to spin them around and around and then let go just as the legs start to swing up. If you get it at just the right position it will fly over the fence. You get extra points the further it goes and even more if it hits the tree stump. 😀

  8. It’s been several weeks since the opening chapters of Chamber of Secrets got unlocked. Personally, after going through them, I haven’t been back but once or twice. And one of those times was to try & help someone get through Ch 5 of Sorceror’s Stone.

Really, unless someone is fanatical about making potions or doing duels, I can’t see why people would visit Pottermore all that often once they’ve gone through the currently available material. Unless it’s just checking for new material. If anyone is on there a lot, perhaps they can explain why?
