Harry Potter News and Commentary

I was listening to an astronomy programme on the radio the other day, while training, and they were discussing bright stars. Imaging my surprise when during my 48th push-up the speaker said to look for Regulus- the brightest star in the constellation of Leo.
Should this have put us on the track of Regulus being a goodie at heart?
Just a thought.

Reg was always Rowling’s biggest “gimme.” Sirius is also a star, of course, and then you have “Andromeda,” so there’s a star-thing going on in the naming of the Black family.
But sure…Regulus, brightest start in a Lion constellation. Makes a lot of sense! I’ve been wondering more lately about Dumbledore’s pondering whether or not the sorting happens too soon. One wonders whether Reg would have joined his brother in Gryffindor. Who did a braver thing throughout the series than Reg?
The post prompted me to Google Bellatrix. Aside from being the 22nd brightest star in the sky (Sirius, the dog star is 1st), the name means “female warrior’.
Of all of JKR’s talents, her gift for finding the right name for her characters is the one I enjoy the most.
I agree reyhan. JKR certainly has a talent for finding the right name for her characters. It goes to show the hard work and planning that she put into the series as a whole, and more specifically, the characters.
Travis, I can’t help but wonder about Sirius’ comments to Harry regarding Regulus. He obviously didn’t think much of Reg, but we learn in the last book, that like you said, Reg did a very brave thing in standing up to Voldemort many years prior. Both ignorance of Reg’s activities during the first war and prejudice because of Sirius’ past with his family fueled Sirius’ disregard. I just found that interesting in light of Matthew’s post and your comments.
