The recent insanity surrounding the question of Dumbledore’s death has reminded me of my intentions on this site: a calm, reasonable, sane look at the books; not wild and crazy speculation. I was right about Dumbledore in the first place. It made the most sense that he was dead, and I’m glad I stuck by that, even if I did spend an inordinate amount of time giving the “Faked Death” crowd a hearing.
Not that I regret all that time. I scoured details from the books that I may well have missed otherwise. It was good discussion. And speculation based on good, canonical evidence, supported by good literary criticism (looking at themes and symbols and such) is welcomed and helpful. Some of the theories were very well-built. But I am glad we can finally return to looking at the coming final installment with the question of Dumbledore’s death settled.
To that end, and with the hope of continually sharpening my own reading of Harry Potter, I’ve joined the Harry Potter essays blog, and plan to contribute my longer pieces there. There will still be plenty of material unique to SoG that won’t appear there. The longer, more detailed essays will appear both here and there. Feel free to comment at either or both (it’s likely different types of reflections and conversations will result at the two sites).
On another note, I’ve added a Harry Potter News feed to the sidebar (thanks to help from LaShawn). As of now, it’s the HPANA feed coming in. I might play with it a bit, but please enjoy the sidebar news updates. Hope they’re helpful for keeping up with recent developments in the HP world.
I’m planning to get Defending Dumbledore Part II up this weekend.
