The house-elves are bothering me about the technical issues again. I’ve got some exciting and frustrating updates:
- I’ve found your comments! We’ve had a strange run of missing comments lately, with no rhyme or reason to their being missing. Turns out Askimet, my spam-catcher, is occasionally stealing your comments. This is good, because now I know where they are. This is bad, because this site gets spammed like crazy, and Askimet catches a lot of it. I deleted all Askimet spam just a few minutes ago, and it’s caught 9 more since. I will try to check in on Askimet spam more regularly and get your comments approved when they’re lost. E-owl me whenever you can’t get a comment to post, and I’ll know to check.
- Firefox Issues: The designer of this site is looking into why Firefox tends to have issues with long threads of comments.
- Trackback Spam: I know this has gotten out of hand. Not sure what to do about it yet. I’ll have to look around and see if there’s a trackback spam plugin or something.

I haven’t noticed any issues yet Travis. Keep up the fantastic work. I want to still do those illustrations for you. I know it’s been a while HOWEVER Uni has been making me so darn busy it’s ridiculous.. I want to start them in our holidays which commence in early June. I have some great ideas. I’ve alreayd penciled in a Snape and a Dark Mark.
Michael, very much looking forward to those images. Thanks!
Hey Travis,
Nothing to do with house elves and vanishing comments and intrusive spam. Just wanted to express my appreciation of the truly wonderful job you do here, keeping an eye on the threads, keeping things on an even keel, always throwing in new stuff to keep it fresh and interesting, and just generally taking care of business. I really enjoy the site and the thoughts of the people who congregate here, starting with the blog master.
Reyhan, well said, I wholeheartedly agree. This is the best HP-site I’ve come across and I mean it.
I hope that the Firefox issues can be fixed somehow, and that Travis finds an Anti-Trackback-Spam Incantation that really works.
I don’t know much about anti-spam for blogs, but with email (and popup blockers do this, too) you can specify addresses you approve, and they won’t get blocked. This setup doesn’t have something like that?
Spam is very evil. I worry that it will totally ruin the internet, or at the very least force the powers that have so far kept it free to assess some sort of charge — I mean a charge for each email sent, a charge for commenting or posting on blogs, etc. beyond the fees we already pay to our ISPs. I hope it doesn’t come to that.
