2010 Fantasy Movie Preview

by revgeorge on February 7, 2010

Over at The Torch Online Heather Hogan has put together a nice preview of upcoming fantasy films in 2010.  Quite a few films coming out this year, including some big ones.  Ms. Hogan has previewed 15 films, the most notable, in my opinion, being Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Iron Man 2, Robin Hood, and last but not least, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1.

Check out all the previews, since there’s also quite a few others of interest to people who regularly read this blog.  Oh yeah, there’s also some movie with sparkly vampires coming out this year too. :)

Deathly Hallows in 3D?

by Travis Prinzi on January 26, 2010

It’s being rumored that both parts of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows might be released in both 2D and 3D versions. The success of Avatar is going to create a lot of this sort of thing. 3D is the direction in which we’re headed.

I enjoyed the 3D aspect of Avatar (if not the plot or dialogue), so I’ll make it a point to see this film in 3D if indeed the rumors are true. Your thoughts?

Here’s a mega-list of movies that are set to be the big ones of 2010. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 is on the list, of course.

I’m excited about several of these. Alice in Wonderland should be fun, and it’s always fascinating to see Depp do an already done character (see: Willy Wonka). I loved the first Iron Man film, so I’m excited for the second. But probably topping my list (after Deathly Hallows, of course) is the Russell Crowe Robin Hood. Russell Crowe is a genius. I’m hoping they wait till he’s in his later 60s before making plans for remaking the Harry Potter movies. Crowe for Dumbledore!

Speaking of remakes: Karate Kid? No thanks. I’ll stick with the first two.

They’re Adapting Your Favorite Book or Comic!!

by revgeorge 12.15.2009

Found this article on The Torch Online.  I post it for two reasons:  One, it’s a nice, thoughtful article on a topic we’ve discussed much here regarding adapting books or comics for the big screen, and Two, it mentions specific books/comics we’ve talked about much here, namely The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and [...]

No Emma Thomson?

by Travis Prinzi 11.11.2008

Emma Thompson is saying she won’t return as Trelawney for Deathly Hallows, being more invested in her own Nanny McPhee films.
I think this is quite unfortunate.  Emma Thomson is a great actress (I was just going on about her earlier today to some co-workers, actually), and she made a good Trelawney.
So who gets cast as [...]

No Del Toro for Deathly Hallows – The Hobbit Instead?

by Travis Prinzi 01.28.2008

Much to the chagrin of many here, Del Toro was not in the running to direct Deathly Hallows, because he’s in talks to direct The Hobbit.
Is this true?  And if so, is it a double blow?  (No Delo Toro for DH, no Jackson for Hobbit?)
Brief Del Toro discussion makes it into my next pubcast, which [...]
