On December 12, Warner Bros is offering a live, worldwide screening of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. It will be hosted by director David Yates, starting at 8pm London time, and Daniel Radcliffe will also be there.
The catch is that you have to purchase the Blu-Ray (released December 8th) before the event and register online.
Yates said,
“I’m looking forward to engaging with the thoughts and opinions of the fans who have supported us so loyally and passionately over the years-without them the films wouldn’t be the success they are.”
It’s an interesting concept. If you want to take part in the viewing, make sure you order the Blu-Ray. You can pre-order it here.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is currently the second-highest grossing movie of the year at $300 million in domestic box-office sales. It comes behind Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen ($402 million) and just above Up! ($292 million). Worldwide, of course, it comes in at #1 with $928 million.
We still have over two months left, so it’s possible that Half-Blood Prince will yet have competition; I think its global place is stable, but it’s hard to say for certain in the USA.

We’re going to make our first Hog’s Head attempt and reading through an entire book together. There was a lot of interest in reading through Half-Blood Prince leading up to the movie, so we’ll start next week.
My intention is to get through a few chapters a week, and I’ll be consulting James W. Thomas’s book, Repotting Harry Potter, along the way. We’ll try to come at this book from as many angles as possible with essays and discussion-starter posts, and we’ll also try very hard not to guess whether or not the movie will screw things up. It will. The question for the movie will be, “Does it screw it up in a good or acceptable way, or in a really bad way?” We’ll talk about that when we see it.
We want to have this done by July 15, when the movie is released. This gives us approximately 10 weeks to get through the entire book. That’s 3 chapters a week, which is very do-able.
So, have Chapters 1-3 of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince read by Monday, May 4, and we’ll get the discussion started! Invite others to join us!
