Some items for your weekend:

  • The Hog’s Head is sponsoring a second giveaway of the 10th Anniversary Edition of Sorcerer’s Stone, specifically for Facebook users.  Any Facebook users who “becomes a fan” of The Hog’s Head by Friday, September 19 will have their names put into a drawing for a free copy of the book.  To be entered, visit The Hog’s Head Page (different from the Group) and click, “Become a Fan.”  Drawing will take place Saturday, September 20, with announcement at the Facebook Hog’s Head Page.
  • We’re eagerly anticipating a post from John Granger letting us know that the finalized version of The Deathly Hallows Lectures is ready to go.  When we get that post, I’ll upload and post my interview with him (Hog’s Head PubCast #60)!
  • Browsing Potter sites, I’ve found that the 10th Anniversary SS might be available on shelves at Border’s.  No one’s reported any new material aside from the new illustrations (including a JKR sketch of Snape), but the book is 11 pages longer than the original.  Different typeset?  Or new material embedded?  (For the record, new artwork does not count as “new material” in my view; there better be something more!)  We’re maintaining the same schedule for the giveaway, despite the sudden availability of the book.  Don’t forget to enter by Tuesday!

Sorcerer’s Stone Shipping?

Leaky is reporting that the 10th anniversary edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone has (accidentally?) been shipped to some who have pre-ordered it.  

Any Hog’s Head patrons have their copy yet? 

Kind of frustrating that some will be able to examine the new material before others.  Either way, we’ll still be having Sorcerer’s Stone Week, starting on the day the book is “officially” released.

Pre-order your copy today.  Hey, you might get it before the rest of us.

September Giveaway: Sorcerer’s Stone 10th Anniversary Edition!

Sorcerer's Stone 10th Anniversary EditionGreat giveaway this month – Sorcerer’s Stone 10th Anniversary Edition!  We had so much fun with the caption contest last time, let’s do it again.  Once all entries are in, we’ll have everyone vote on the winner (and this time, we’ll do an in-post poll to vote.)  The winner will have their very own copy of the 10th Anniversary Edition of Sorcerer’s Stone pre-ordered for them by The Hog’s Head from Amazon.com (and you’ll receive it just in time to participate in Sorcerer’s Stone Week!)  Deadline for entry is 11pm (EST) on Tuesday, September 16.  The vote will be posted by midnight of the 16th and will close at midnight on September 17.  To enter, simply put your caption for this photo in the comments for this post.  Good luck!.

Sorcerer’s Stone 10th Anniversary Week

Update:  It’s come to my attention that Banned Books Week is September 27 – October 4.  I’d like to give that a good amount of attention, so I’m slightly shifting the dates for Sorcerer’s Stone week.  It will now take place September 21 – September 27.  The last day of SS Week will overlap with the first day of Banned Books Week.

In a few weeks, the 10th Anniversary edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone will be released.  [Within the next week, The Hog's Head will be giving away a copy, which means I'll pre-order it for you and have it shipped to your door.  Details to come on how to enter.]

Let’s face it.  We’re Potter fans, and we’ll all have our attention on that book, and any new material in it, during the week it comes out.  So, in honor of the 10th anniversary of the U.S. edition of the first book, The Hog’s Head is sponsoring Sorcerer’s Stone Week, September 23-30.  We’ll have daily posts reflecting on the story, and we encourage a re-read if you have not done so recently (for some, it might be the first re-read since Deathly Hallows!).  As always, there will be plenty of space for you to comment and share your thoughts.  At the very least, each day will have a post with some discussion-starters based on the new material and reflections on the first book – 10 years later, with the whole story complete!

Plan to join us for Sorcerer’s Stone Week!  If you’re not subscribed to The Hog’s Head, now would be a good time to do so either by RSS reader or email,  or as a friend on LiveJournal. That way, you’ll know all about the giveaway when I announce it, and you’ll get updated throughout Sorcerer’s Stone Week.
