We’re going to make our first Hog’s Head attempt and reading through an entire book together. There was a lot of interest in reading through Half-Blood Prince leading up to the movie, so we’ll start next week.
My intention is to get through a few chapters a week, and I’ll be consulting James W. Thomas’s book, Repotting Harry Potter, along the way. We’ll try to come at this book from as many angles as possible with essays and discussion-starter posts, and we’ll also try very hard not to guess whether or not the movie will screw things up. It will. The question for the movie will be, “Does it screw it up in a good or acceptable way, or in a really bad way?” We’ll talk about that when we see it.
We want to have this done by July 15, when the movie is released. This gives us approximately 10 weeks to get through the entire book. That’s 3 chapters a week, which is very do-able.
So, have Chapters 1-3 of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince read by Monday, May 4, and we’ll get the discussion started! Invite others to join us!

hurrah. i just started sorcerer’s stone again last night, but will switch to half/blood prince to have some fun.
You know, I think I will read Half-Blood Prince, slowly, alongside the new books I’m going through. I think I can squeeze a few chapters a week before the movie comes out, in addition to my regular reading.
Count me in!
Thank goodness you’re waiting till Monday to start. I was afraid you’d start while I was still at convention. Although I’ll be out of town in a week & a half again but I’ll have had time to read through things a bit.
I just finished HBP… Pity. But I’ll be very interested in seeing commentary about it and will probably join in on the discussions.
Shane, not a pity at all. Just means you’re ahead on your reading
Awesome!
I am in. I just finished HBP, but that just means I’m done with my homework early like Travis said
I’m looking forward to this too.
