Some items for your weekend:
- The Hog’s Head is sponsoring a second giveaway of the 10th Anniversary Edition of Sorcerer’s Stone, specifically for Facebook users. Any Facebook users who “becomes a fan” of The Hog’s Head by Friday, September 19 will have their names put into a drawing for a free copy of the book. To be entered, visit The Hog’s Head Page (different from the Group) and click, “Become a Fan.” Drawing will take place Saturday, September 20, with announcement at the Facebook Hog’s Head Page.
- We’re eagerly anticipating a post from John Granger letting us know that the finalized version of The Deathly Hallows Lectures is ready to go. When we get that post, I’ll upload and post my interview with him (Hog’s Head PubCast #60)!
- Browsing Potter sites, I’ve found that the 10th Anniversary SS might be available on shelves at Border’s. No one’s reported any new material aside from the new illustrations (including a JKR sketch of Snape), but the book is 11 pages longer than the original. Different typeset? Or new material embedded? (For the record, new artwork does not count as “new material” in my view; there better be something more!) We’re maintaining the same schedule for the giveaway, despite the sudden availability of the book. Don’t forget to enter by Tuesday!

Is it still a good idea to become a fan of The Hogshead page even if I don’t want to be entered in the contest?
Get on John’s case. I want to hear that pubcast!
revgeorge, yes – depending on the functionality of the page (I hear it’s better to use than “groups”), I’ll probably end up doing most Facebook stuff through the page instead of the group. Or at least some stuff from the page that I don’t do from the group.
I just won’t put your name in the hat.
I’m editing PubCast #60 right now. You’ll have your podcast within the hour!
Thanks, Travis. I did join up as a fan. Thanks also for working on the pubcast. I just assumed you’d already ran by Borders & were now engrossed in reading the 10th Anniversary edition of HPSS.
Nope! It wasn’t at B&N, and the nearest Borders is farther away, and I haven’t had time (and probably won’t, today) to make the trip.
PubCast posted in 5 … 4 … 3 … 2 …
Saw a copy at Border’s this afternoon, but only had a minute or so to glance through it. Unless it’s very well hidden, I didn’t see any new material beyond the illustrations. JKR’s early illustration of Snape looks quite vampire-ish and she makes a bit of a joke about that (still poking gently at the “outlandish” theory of fans) in the two or three lined caption to go with it.
I forgot to check on whether or not they left the text “Americanized” or reverted to British text. If memory serves me correctly, the original edition of Sorcerer’s Stone used American terms like sneakers (not trainers), sweater (not jumper) and field (not pitch).
Heading over to Facebook to sign up. I’d still like to win a copy, even if there’s no new material!
