No one likes to study on the weekend, so let’s just relax in the Gryffindor Common Room and chat about some things going on in the Harry Potter world. I promise we won’t think too hard about any of them.
John Granger will be speaking at Lumos 2006: A Harry Potter Symposium in Las Vegas. Wish I could attend.
Martin Labar runs an excellent blog called Sun and Shield. He covers a variety of topics, including Harry Potter, Lewis, Tolkien and other aspects of literature. He’s recently been working through some thoughts on evil in the Harry Potter series, and he’s got a great post comparing Lewis and Tolkien and highlighting some critiques of Lewis. Some great posts on Christianity and science, too. I’d recommend him as a regular read.
Reviews for Goblet of Fire are coming in: here, here, and here are a few. Here’s a bit of advice for Potter fans: prepare yourselves well in advance for lots of details from the book to be entirely missing from the movie. I’m not even going to pick up my copy of Goblet of Fire this week, because I want to just walk in and enjoy it without thinking about this or that missing plot event.
Finally, here are a few things that may be coming to Sword of Gryffindor this week:
~ Some thoughts on the theme of resurrection in literature
~ A quick look at the first three movies (this is conditional upon my getting a chance to watch them all again this week)
~ Review of Goblet of Fire (Friday)
~ And if I have time, I’ll introduce you this week to the Poll Troll
