Last night I made my way to the Sidewalk Cafe on Avenue A and 6th in Manhattan to see Draco and the Malfoys perform. Before they went on stage, we were treated to performances by Swish & Flick, Justin Finch-Fletchley of the Sugar Quills, and Whompy from the Whomping Willows. It was something to see a small, but devoted group of fans singing to these group’s songs, including Melissa Anelli of The Leaky Cauldron. Harry Potter was very much alive in that diminuitive showroom in the cafe. When Draco and the Malfoys took the stage, you could feel the excitement and energy. I’ve seen them perform last year at the Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden along with Harry and the Potters, and they are awesome. Starting off with “Party Like You’re Evil” and even singing some exclusive songs from their new album, Draco and the Malfoys capped off a great night of Wizard Rock.
You can check their upcoming schedule on their official website or Myspace profile.

There was some kind of Wizard Rock event at a local library here in Rochester last night. I had intended to go – as well as to call the library to ask if they needed help with anything, and to get involved. I haven’t mentioned this here yet, but three days ago, our house was broken into, and we’ve been cleaning up the virtual mess since then. So thanks for the Wrock post; I can live vicariously through your experience, having missed my most recent opportunity.
Too bad about the break-in. No good time for it, obviously, but especially bad since you’re supposed to be delivering keynote speeches in Ottawa tomorrow.
The Ottawa conference is next weekend.
So it is.
I get confused easy. It’s all those blows to the head. Occupational hazard, I fear.
Sorry about the break in, Travis. Hopefully not too much was taken. I also hope it happened while you all were away. A break in is traumatizing enough without being there for it, too. Good luck.
revgeorge, thankfully, no one was home. It was a very odd robbery, but a few of the things they did end up taking some hugely important items. We’re working on getting everything taken care of.
Sorry to hear about the break-in, Travis, though I’m glad to hear no one was hurt.
Johnny, this post is timely because I just returned from my graduation roadtrip north with my little sister (celebrating her high school/my college graduation). We’d stopped in a Starbucks in Portland, ME because I desperately needed to tie up some loose-end email, and lo and behold, right above our little table was a poster for Harry and the Potters, apparently headlining a show with what looked like several non-wrock bands in Portland (on the 26th, I believe?). It made me smile to say the least. :]
RenaBlack, that is so cool. Thanks for telling me about that.
